Moving to FSDO location
How does it work if you get hired for a FSDO location that you don't live at? Obviously it would be up to you to move yourself, but if you don't go to training at OKC at first, are you responsible to get yourself to the FSDO location each week? And, how do you get the time to move and sell your house, for example after being hired?
Thanks much.

If you voluntarily accept a position at an office that is not in your backyard, you will be "commuting" on your own dime unless you move there. Once hired, you will get a mandatory "report date". Normal working hours are M-F 0730-1600 for new hires unless you have a super cool boss that lets you telework (not likely first year) or work 4/10's. It's not likely that you will go to OKC right away.. Plan to spend several weeks or months shadowing seasoned ASI's to get your OJT.
Once hired, you will accrue leave at a rate of 4 hours every two weeks (one vacation day per month). You can use that leave for moving/house hunting. Alternately, if you need time off immediately, you can apply for "Leave Without Pay (LWOP). Please note that the time you spend on LWOP you are not paid, and it counts against your longevity for retirement.
Hope that helps you..

Thanks
That is exactly the information I need.
One more question, how do I find the GA FSDO office locations? (I've looked everywhere). I plan to apply to the GA side. I know (from reading this thread) that you cannot chose a location anymore, just called for those offices that are hiring. It just would be helpful to have an idea where I might be able to transfer to someday and/or what offices are on the East Coast.
So thanks for all the postings here.

The grass appears to be greener on the 121 side right now. Supply and demand... I know at least two ASI's that have resigned in the past few weeks and got hired by national/LCC airlines. God bless them, hope they will be happier!

PS. In full disclosure to those lurking, I will work probably six weekends this year. We do have to attend airshows/events that we oversee. Unfortunately, there are only three of us in our office that do so.

I would be happier in my previous position/career path, but that is all relative. I enjoyed the flying I did, but until someone can offer me that, with a M-F, 8 hour, no holiday, limited weekend schedule, I'm staying where I'm at.
