FAA inspector thread

Hiring will continue normally. The freeze has been lifted (even though it never applied to 1825's). My advice is to fast track everything you can. Ask for the earliest interview times, etc. If you get a TOL (Tentative Offer Letter) make sure you get the earliest start date possible. Same with FOL.
You never know when they may pull the plug.
Good luck!

You're right. I am guilty of having a narrow view. At least of what motivates pilots to get jobs with the FAA. Not with the opportunities to find your own niche within the Agency. Don't misunderstand and think I'm disgruntled.
This started out as my comment on what Deadbone said and another on how boring and miserable the CMO jobs supposedly are.

It is difficult to answer in forums without being accused of being disgruntled, narrow minded, bitter etc. I did 3 yrs in CMOs and could have stayed if a few things had fallen into place differently. What fell into place was a seat up front so I took the opportunity. I may not be as pleased with the decision down the road, but I'm playing this hand. If I end up standing in line to return to government service, provided all the ASI jobs haven't turned into GS-9 AST positions in SAS, I may have an advantage in the process. Candid responses to questions available in PMs, that'll keep things lemon drops and gumdrops positive on the boards.

Don't forget,
An incompetent FLM or OM can make your life a living hell. Maxiflex, 4-10s, or pick your poison. And you have to sit there and nod your head. There's an instance of one individual that was arrested for kidnapping and assault on a female... got his job back and is now POI for the largest 135 in the world.
F up move up is your easiest way to a 14 apparently

Yup, any career choice can have bad apples. Both the feds and airlines have their "gems" that somehow got past the screening process. I will say in defense of "Rook's" post that is the exception and not the norm. YMMV

You're definitely right PerfInit It is not the norm. I read a ton of your posts on the ASI gig before I took the plunge myself. May go back one day. Didn't burn any bridges. Thanks for the down to earth perspectives.

Thanks, Scott Olmos did my ride (incredibly nice guy) and from what I've heard the entire flight check is completely revamped. It was almost a 3 hour flight....yes you read that correctly 3 HOURS. And that's how it's been for a few other guys I've spoken to who have recently taken it. No cake walk but if you have decent IFR skills and can fly to commercial pts standards it shouldn't be an issue. Hoping to hear something within the next few days!
