I would not recommend ERR until after you are off probation (53 weeks). They can terminate you For just about anything the first year. Don't give them a reason.

My inside guy told me that the FAA is looking harder into staffing you were you want. They've been having issues at certain offices of guys getting trained up, hitting their one year mark, and doing an ERR back to their home.

My local office is one of those "training offices" as most don't want to live in this state. So this may help in me getting hired directly into my local office.

Besides that he said wait a full year and then put your ERR in.

Thanks. That was my plan but then I heard do it the first year because the office can't stop it, but after that they can hold you based on need. About 60% of my class took a location they didn't want in hopes of ERR later. Stupid nationwide listing. I took a location I knew I could tolerate if need be, just in case, so it's all good.

I ink was barely dry on my 13 when I ERRed. I was always told to wait until you had it before applying and it went through in weeks....

After, but it's called an "emergency", so if an emergency actually pops up in that first year, it's supposed to be an avenue that could be used. I'd recommend after for many reasons, such as qualification/training, being able to hold complexity, etc.

Thanks all. I'll just wait out the year. I don't have any legit cause for a hardship and sure don't want to jeopardize my position.

Sorry, one more question - If a GS13 USAJobs posting for the location that I'm wanting were to appear in this first year, would it be good to apply? Just thinking that might be a good way that wouldn't broadcast my intentions to the office like an ERR would.

Do you have 52 weeks of time in service as a 12? If not, that 13 bid may be difficult to get. Bidding on a competitive vacancy announcement is not "under the radar" as your management team will be contacted at some point in the process. If your name shows up on the list, almost guaranteed that the hiring office will call your FLM. If you are still on probation, best to keep a very low profile.

Everything I've been told is if I don't get my home office then stay at whatever office your assigned, for at least a year.

Good to know. Just trying to learn all the politics and procedures to avoid doing something stupid.
