Default Brainstorming Ideas/Opportunities

I am currently considering leaving the industry, and I've been brainstorming possible ideas/opportunities for a career change. Fortunately, I have a 4 year degree, unfortunately, it's in Aviation Management, which seems rather worthless at this point, if not pursuing an aviation-related job.

I know there are plenty of pilots who have successfully made the leap, and I'm just looking for general ideas on career paths that wouldn't necessarily require any further education (at least for the moment).

My goal right now is to compile a list, not only for my own reflection, but for others down the road who find themselves in a similar situation. Also, if there are any avenues that you found especially helpful throughout your own experience, please share.

Appreciate all input!

In some states you can be hired as a public school teacher through alternate certification programs if you can satisfy a need they have - subject, location, etc. You have to pass the Praxis exams to be eligible. There is a set limit of time during which you earn certification while employed as a teacher, and you typically have to go through some sort of mentoring/educational process as well. I'm not sure how active these programs are anymore though since the economy is stagnant.

Anything medical is hot right now and medical obviously means more than doctor's offices and hospitals too.

Thinks of companies like McKesson and Wellpoint and everything in between as they are all hiring like crazy. Write a strong a management/leadership/possibly logistics-supply chain resume and blast the medical industry. Think of friends and family you might know in this industry and create a LinkedIn Account as well.

Why do pilots "leaving" a flying position believe that their salvation lies in a totally unrelated field? If you are considering an unrelated field, keep in mind that your lack of experience means that you are competing on equal footing with every other "newbie" in that field.

Instead, pilots should consider how they can capitalize on and leverage the experience that they ALREADY HAVE.

Some examples would include: teaching in an aviation or safety related field, aviation consulting, airport or aviation management, unmanned aerial vehicle development and operation, aviation lobbying.

Aside from direct aviation fields, there are related aspects in other transportation and safety industries.

Don't try to think so far outside of the "box" that you forget that you have already built a pretty good "box"!

Just my two cents.

I'm serious. You could probably score a management position and we need guys with real-world experience in these positions. Pay and benefits are pretty good.

It would also get your foot in the Federal door and who knows what opportunities might open up from there.
