Default How many total flight hours?

I've seen graphics for UA and Delta published by ALPA showing what the least, most and average flight hours a new hire had in 2015. It seems like the least was 1500 the most was 24,000 TT. And the average was about 5000. Do people feel that is accurate/would it be reasonable to say the average TT if you broke it down civilians vs military would be 3000 and 8000TT?

Also does anyone have the data for 2016?

Indeed. But I've thought about it, we'd all take that if the opportunity presented itself, so yeah they're lucky but I think they'd be very, very grateful about how lucky they were.

Thread apparently started by an optimist lol! Lots also hired in the 10-15k range and off your charts...

edit: yes, probably trending down a bit over past year or two

Hours...
The easiest metric of a pilot's ability.
The least accurate measure of a pilot's ability.

Although not perfect, number of flights is probably a better metric.

Optimist maybe but if I said I hope to get hired at a legacy with under 5k that is optimistic (possible but not as probable). So I want to set realistic expectations. I think this kind of data would be useful to aspiring pilots and regional pilots.

Like 20,000 flights of .3?
I agree purely flight time is a poor way of measuring anything.
Hence the need for a resume at an interview I guess

DL published their avgs (1/2014-10/2015) -

Civ 7700 TT 4100 PIC
Mil 3100 2200

UA and AA have released some data but it's not as detailed -

UA 2014 - combined avg 8600. Mil - 3500.

AA was sub 6000 TT for all? Can't find the fact sheet. AA published their f/t TT. Average that into the class breakdown (80% +/- military for non f/t's) and the TT estimate might be closer 7,000(?).

lost decade brought a lot of experience and hours
I see from 2020 and thereafter to be less than 5k civilian time to be the norm

That's reality with a few exceptions of course
