Very sad indeed. I don't want to sound like a Monday morning QB, but I was surprise the CA landed and taxiing to the gate, not sure that would have made a difference, but I would have considered stopping on the taxiway to get medical treatment started immediately. But who knows, maybe that was the fastest way to get the paramedics to him.

Makes sense. On my side of the airport we ONLY use stairs and the taxi route is always convoluted. Many times requiring a shut down and tow in.
Prayers for the family... regardless of the schematics, a death is never easy.

The best and fastest way to get him help was to declare a medical emergency and then get to the first open gate where the help will be waiting. Additionally all US airplanes have a very extensive medical kit and AED on board.
Despite what you may think the crews of most US Airlines are extremely well trained for this sort of thing and most US airports have full time EMT staff.

From your comment I have to assume you are not a pilot or even a flight attendant. The only way to get outside medical help into the airplane is via stairs, jetway or some other ramp raised up to the door of the airplane.

Sad day for all involved.
