It wasn't until last year that I flew in an environment where I could listen to 121.5 all over the country.
Wow.
Concur with the comments above. It's been pretty embarrassing to listen to the chuckleheads on freq and know they are "professional pilots".

I would bet a Starbucks that it's mainline, LCC, RJ, 135 fractional and 91 corporate doing it. The anonymity inherent creates a feeling of laxity that users within the national airspace system exploit. The only solution is active monitoring from where these transmissions originate. Impose fines once the sources are pinpointed; the transmissions will halt swiftly, guaranteed.

I tell my kid all the time: "If you stop over reacting every time I made a dumb joke, I'd probably stop making dumb jokes." But every time, he over reacts, and I just keep on making Dad Jokes.
Same thing applies to Guard. If everyone just shut up and ignored the trolls, it would stop. But every time the guard dogs jump in to scold the children, they're playing right into their hands.
So yeah... everyone shut up.
Or don't. I promise you I'm not participating on either side, but I find it funny as he11. Personally, I love the guard fights.
