American Airlines Flight Ops Interview?
Has anybody out there gone through the American Airlines Flight Operations Internship Interview? I'm heading down to Dallas on Tuesday for and am just looking for any advice or pointers!
Thank you, -Brett |
Brett,
Congrats on getting the interview. I was accepted for a paid slot for this spring semester down in Dallas but had to defer for this summer. Re-applied and waiting for the interview call now. Anyways, the interview itself is VERY SHORT. Don't be surprised if it's not more than 5 minutes or so, as it's that way for everybody. Depending on whether or not there are other people interviewing at the same time, chances are you will get a tour of the facilities first by one of the interns down there this semester. If not you'll get one after the interview. The interview (from what I can remember): - Go over your transcripts - What did you do to prepare for the interview? - Questions regarding some key people at AMR. - What qualities should an intern possess? - Have you ever violated a regulation? - One maybe two technical questions about the airplane you currently fly. There is also a 1-page writing sample that you will have to complete either before or after the interview. Any questions let me know. Good luck. |
Just curious
What would a flt ops intern do? Like scheduling or helping with dispatch?

Hey windowseat...thanks very much! Your discription was very similar to what another intern that came from my school told me. Maybe a stupid question here...but should I loose my beard for the interview?

I worked in Flight Operations last semester as an intern. You should be interviewing with Lisa. She is really awesome and she doesn't have alot of aviation knowledge so don't worry that she'll ask you 121 regs or something crazy like that.
She'll ask you some basic questions -Name all the planes in the fleet (777, 767, 757, 737, MD-80, and A300) -What is adverse yaw? -Maximum crosswind component of the plane you currently fly? -Who is the CEO (Arpeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy) -Who is VP of Flight (Mark Hetterman i.e. the Clerk) -Some HR questions as well If you look good on paper and wear a suit, you should kill the interview. They really need the people for the work. Hopefully you get a paid position but it all depends on your G.P.A. We figured that was how paid/unpaid was selected. Good Luck! Illini |
I'd loose the beard also. PM me if you want more

Illini Don't call him the clerk if you want the intern position. That is our (line pilots) name for him. He is the one with the suspenders and jesters hat. Arpey will call for him on occasion. "Bring me my fool"!!!! If you wouldl like to see cartoons on the clerk. Our own "Capt. Fury" has some good stuff. www.cartoondept.com AAflyer P.S. Good Luck, with it's problems there are some great people here. |

Ahh...yeah loose and lose always gets me! I did, however, lose my beard. Thanks everybody for the info. It's been a big help.
