Thumbs up US Airways leaving Chapter 11

Judge clears US Airways to merge, exit bankruptcy
Fri Sep 16, 2005 11:34 AM ET

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept 16 (Reuters) - A federal judge on Friday approved the proposed merger between US Airways <UAIRQ.OB> and America West Airlines <AWA.N>, capping US Airways' second bankruptcy restructuring in three years.

Judge Stephen Mitchell of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia signed off on the deal that will create the fifth biggest domestic airline by passenger volume.

The parties must wait 10 days before completing the transaction.

I am glad you find it funny. A lot of my co-workers (of whom, are some of the best aviators I have ever flown with) don't share your sense of humor.

Respectfully,

i have friends there, too. that doesn't change the fact that they have awful management and this merger with AW will only hasten their demise. especially with gas at $2 plus a gallon. it was $2.12 today on my flight plan...

I think a combined ATA and USAirways could be a formidable competitor in the marketplace. Full-service, low cost, and an expansive route network. Watch out, American, Delta, et al!

Just a tiny bit of knowledge of the BS that Kill Bill has been through will help you to understand that if he could not find humor in it, he might go insane.

I hope he is wrong about the about the 12 months. With fuel prices still at ridiculous highs, I do not think that he is too far off unless fuel prices come WAY down. With 4 carriers in BK right now, I hope this is the bottom and that the industry is going to start back up the hill.
