how long to wide-body at major?

Most majors hire into 737s or A320s, which are domestic (other than Caribbean and Mexico/Canada, I know)

What is the rough estimate of time to be able to bid a 757/767 or even a 777 at a major?

some guys at UAL are getting 757/767 after about 3 years on property... a few years ago new hires were getting 76T right out of new hire training, but that isnt happening anymore... plan on 3yrs which isnt bad at all

At Delta, you can get it most likely during the first bid at the end of your new hire seat lock so 1-2 years. Just about 2 years ago we had new hires going to the 757/767 but I’m not sure if that’s happening these days.

Regardless of the airline you fly for, you most likely will be junior longer on widebodies.

Going to most likely be hiring into 757/767 shortly.

Class after me in April of this year had approx 25 new hires going to the 757/767 .

At mentioned above, you can get in a 75/76 rather quickly at DAL. There has been new hire classes with a few 75/76 spots available as well.
However, you will be doing mostly domestic flying in this category as the international flying is more senior.
Therefore, being in a 737 or 320 category with more seniority might be something to consider.
The 767-400 and 330 take about 2-3 years to get and will have 95% international flying.
And as mentioned above, you 'll be junior for a while.

Lots of newhires getting the 75/76 at Delta. We have guys at 1.5-2 years on the 330/764. LAX 777 plug got it at 2.5 years on property, which may have been an anomoly. 777/350 will generally go much higher seniority, but the 330/764 will likely continue to go sub-5 years(ish).

If you consider the 767 a wide body, it’s attainable as a new hire at United. There’s no seat lock to bid up in pay, but you will be forever junior as you watch people bid ahead of you. You won’t fly much, since we bid flying FO and bunkie separately.

777 and 787 can be held at about the two-year mark, mostly in SFO but EWR isn’t far behind. A few held it in ORD as we staffed up for the 773s, but it hasn’t been that junior since.

Unless you’re just desperate to fly a big airplane, your QWL will be vastly better on a narrow body until you have some seniority.

What he said! It most certainly does NOT take 3 years to hold 756. If you cant get it in new hire class, chances are almost certain to get it on the next vacancy bid.

the last 4-5 months new hires have steadily been going to it.
