Any legacies/LCC that are fat on reserves?
Sick and tired of the regional life! Our carrier hasn't had a decent amount of reserves in over two years, and that coupled with minimum days off gets really old. I'd love to find a place to go where I can easily get rid of a trip if I desire to. I assume there are at least some out there?

United for awhile was running fat on RSV’s in many fleets. Now with Kirby coming in and tweaking the operation, it seems like we are going to transition into a more leaner operation that will survive primarily by loading up the feeding trough for the premium pay piggies to keep the operation running.
That’s atleast how I’ve interpreted the future staffing plans. Very well could be wrong. In the meantime, I’ve been able to drop several 2 days, an occasional 4 day or at least trade a 4 day for a 2 day.

So how would that work if they staff less reserves and don’t offer premium pay? I imagine it would take just one week of no opening pairings getting covered for something to give. But then again, it’s greedy pilots we are talking about here. Those that hunt premium pay would probably still pick up straight pay if they knew that was as good as it would get.

Not buying that. There is no room left in the UA strategy to hire minimally and avoid premium. The already concluded efficiency effort, plus retirements, plus lack of hiring, plus growth strategy.... Just no wiggle room left. 2018 at UA is not 2014 at AA. Only thing left to stop this train is an economic downtown.

United has been pretty amazing as far as qol goes. Living in base helps and understanding our trading system is a must but I have been able to manipulate my schedule to my liking flying the trips I actually enjoy. I was about ready to give up on this career after almost a decade of what you speak of. It gets better!
