Yes I’m getting 590 gross more per month but my taxable gross income has risen 2590 more per month. That is where the loss occurs.

At the end of the day, people can argue what is and isn’t taxable forever. However, the way company did it last year, there was zero accounting on the pilots side on their W2’s showing any kind of stipend. However, that will change with this new program as they have to somehow show the withholding as a reduction from someone’s normal hours worked and for that reason most people I have talked to has withdrawn from the Divy program.

as for being comparable to other’s rates… we are only just now comparable to everyone’s 2019/2020 rates. Everyone is in negotiations. Even Avelo is paying slightly more AND still giving a $1800 month commuting stipend on top of those rates.
That makes it clear, and I see where that could lead to less net pay. And I definitely hope you get better rates.

Having said that, as far as the taxability, IMO you should have tracked how much the company refunded you, and added that to your taxable income as a fringe benefit when filing. When you didn't include that money, you in effect deducted those expenses from your taxable income. And according to the IRS: "The new law also disallows deductions for expenses associated with qualified transportation fringe benefits or expenses incurred providing transportation for commuting." (2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act).
Not sure how you could argue with that....

dude! How much money are you making that your marginal tax rate is 140%? That’s crazy. Good for you.

Hey Breeze folks! I'm about to complete my video interview to apply as an FO, and I just have a few general questions that I'm hoping you all could answer, mostly about schedule and growth.

-How likely is ORF out of training?
-Would a 1.5-2 hour drive be reasonable to sit reserve at home?
-How would the junior FO schedule look out of ORF? Mostly day trips? Some overnights? Reserve length?
-How does the charter operation work scheduling wise? Does that just mean a lot of reserve on days without scheduled service?
-How are work rules generally, and what are some things that makes Breeze stand out relative to other LCCs/regionals?
-Would you suggest an AA regional or Breeze as a first 121 gig?

You can get ORF right out of training.
Our rule book states 90 minutes to be in the parking lot.
You would be on reserve, but ORF does day trips and some charters originate from there.
Charter is usually 7on/8off/8on/7off.
You will be on call on days we have little to no flying, if your base has no flights on one of those days, you’re gonna be off UNLESS they decide to fly you off to another base to cover open time.
We hardly have work rules at all. But if you can hold a line, it’s not bad. Reserve went to 12 days off minimum, our daily min credit is 4 hours, lineholders see 18-20 days off, the flying is way more efficient than any regional or most other majors could ever be. The 190 does 7.5-8.5 hour days on average. We are in the grey area between ALPA and the company waiting to elect officials and starts a bargaining process. We still need better 401k, but the pay per hour isn’t too bad now.
I would go to Breeze over any regional.
Breeze is still in the growth phase, so things can change quickly here, that’s good or bad. I’ve never flown with better people, the crews are awesome. Most of management is awesome, the big problem is the lack of communication between departments.

Parents and spouse or friend fly for free on breeze. We also have discount standby travel on a bunch of airlines around the world available after 6 months for all your beneficiaries. Allegiant and spirit is available after 3 months I believe. Also jumpseating with most carriers.

There is a bit of enigma behind their financial health because they're privately owned, but we've seen a lot of route cuts and route suspensions in conjunction with new city pairings/route announcements. Part of me thinks this is a good thing in that they're small, agile, and adaptive to following demand. Part of me also thinks this could be just as likely attributed due to an underperformance given all the industry forces at hand.

That said, how is the operation actually going? Are things continually improving and are you guys successfully growing? Are pilots content to stay or are they looking to go elsewhere given the current 121 hiring climate?
They’re growing the airline. Some of the negative articles were a bit misleading because even though routes are being canceled, they’re adding others. Apparently record load factors recently and month over month growth indefinitely. The business model is pretty strong, when people experience avoiding the hubs to fly non stop, it’s a no brainer.

Default Older guys

Hi, I’ve been absent from this game for many years and considering getting back into the airline game. I’ve got 23 years as a professional pilot but have flown corporate for the last 10. Needless to say I’m no longer a young hotshot with a wife and girlfriend on separate coasts. My kids are raised, my (only) wife is still with me and my cars are paid for. It’s obvious that this world has changed drastically since I left as there were no startups, DEC’S or committing stipends in my heyday. The DEC thing has peaked my interest both at Breeze and Avelo but I’m curious if I’d be the only gray haired captain on the property? Are most of you guys early/mid career? Just out of the regionals? Sounds like the daily grind is manageable at both but I’m curious what you all think?

I commuted to SLC WAY back when but I’m curious how a KPVU commute would work? There are very few flights there! With a PVU base, why is the training CTR in SLC?

is there actually a commuter stipend?

Is the 15~18 days off realistic?

How does holiday flying work?

Am I crazy to think that the DEC option is the best case for a guy to finish his career?

any positive advice is welcome.
