Well, they will sell their own tickets and not be a FFD/feeder carrier, so they aren’t really a regional. Not sure that Sun Country meets the DOT definition of a major either. Maybe there needs to be a sub forum for startups....but who would visit that sub? Seems like of all the APC sub forum possibilities, the Major section makes the most sense. Also, it’s probably a good idea to be alongside other major airline forums since Breeze will be flying major airline equipment, even if their pay rates don’t reflect that. If this was in the regional thread, there’d be a lot of “hey it’s better than Mesa.” At least here it can be compared against other major airlines by major airline guys, and their rates can get appropriate scrutiny.

The federal government definition of a "Major Airline" is based strictly on annual revenue, so by that definition SKW, RAH, and maybe a couple other regionals are "majors".

Here on APC we use the industry standard definitions. Regionals are FFD or codeshare only, or maybe operate small planes in a geographic niche. Majors sell their own tickets and have a nationwide route network. I expect Breeze is a major.

Kind of like porn, hard to define precisely but you know it when you see it.

Yes, I've repeatedly denied persistent idiots from large regionals insisting that they be "promoted" to major airline based on DoT classification. Even had one guy claim that his regional should be categorized as a legacy based on their structure prior to de-regulation

We all know that “his regional” was Skywest.

I honestly have nothing against SkyWest. Its a good airline with a bunch of good people.

I interviewed there years ago and I was told by the guy doing my interview that the Brasilia was the regional and the RJ was the mainline.

Mesa Pilots took reduced guarantee from 76 to 68hrs this year due to Covid and the company was in the black with 14m in profits this year.

$36*68hrs 😳 = sad

Wouldn't be surprised if JO a board member at Breeze.

That was a very long-standing joke. But it was just a joke. For 99.99% of us.

Breeze pilot pay is low enough that it actually made the news...
