It is what it is. I always thought Breeze would struggle if their business model included experienced pilots with low compensation in the midst of the biggest pilot shortage ever, but covid solved that for them.

AA has like 1600 pilots on furlough, many of the envoy flows have a 170/190 type as do anyone who flew the 190 at AA. Plus DL has 1700 pilots on 30 hrs a month with no work obligations and many who meet those qualifications. If I had a 190 type I’d consider it

Blame who? The critics or the new hires?

New hires. I don’t fault anyone for working there. There’s no other options. And Neeleman could not have timed this better. People will line up for these wages.

No, I don't blame them at all. I was attempting to defend them actually, but it appears that was a failure on my part lol

Default All I want for Xmas is a Breeze interview

Compass pilots were and still are the finest group of co-workers I've had the privilege to fly with and learn from. Some of them will end up at breeze and not because of a lack of self respect but to further their careers during a devasting year for our profession.
So good to see you here BobbyLee, I sure do miss flying with ya! We really did have the best pilot group over at Compass and I'm hoping to reunite with some of them if I'm lucky enough to get an interview. My minimum guarantee on unemployment is 1800 a month so ya, I would be absolutely thrilled to land a job here and stop hemorrhaging cash from my savings. The options for someone in my position are as follows:

Regional
Most aren't hiring and the thought of starting over at another regional with worse pay, QOL, and long upgrade times? No thank you. On top of that, sitting reserve at a regional that I'll have to commute to sounds like a fresh new hell that I'm not prepared for.

Cargo
I'm pretty sure I applied to every single operator out there and have gotten nothing but crickets and tumbleweeds as a response. Hiring windows pop up and they get over 1000 applications in the first day so the odds are stacked against me. Oh, and with a schedule that typically has you working 17 days in a row my wife might forget who I am.

Charter
Jump into a smaller jet and deal with rich people. I'm treading water in a few pilot pools for this kind of work but they're not my first choice. Again, long upgrade times and the 8 on 6 off schedule isn't my favorite. This would be a place holder rather than something that truly advances my career.

Breeze
Sitting in a familiar cockpit with some old friends is enough for me to want this job and want it bad. Potential for quick upgrade, sitting on top of the seniority list, bringing the double wave back, and forming a snack basket committee. I meet their min requirements and they're hiring so give me one good reason why I shouldn't be eagerly anticipating a call from them like a kid on xmas morning.

I was being a jerk and I agree with you about the labor market factor, but what about covid decimating demand in general, could make it rather difficult to launch the airline, even if they are saving a few million on salaries.
Pilot-wise of course the reason to go to breeze would be desperation in the short term and promise in the medium to long term.

Their projected break even load factor is eye-wateringly low due largely in part to the unbelievable lease deals they got on the 190/195s after covid hit, and of course low labor costs. Fuel is cheap right now too. Couple that with the fact that they were planning on operating in the red initially being a start up, haven’t been accumulating massive debt like everyone else, and I’ll take their business prospects over most of the other majors right now, even if they are flying 40% full planes.

I would jump on those if they didn't require relocation
