cell carrier thats not ATT/Verizon quality
I am moving to rural hilly country in Wisconsin and ATT basically doesnt work. Locals overwhelmingly use USCellular for mobile phones but a few use Verizon as well. Have concerns as travel domestically that data usage for USCellular might be lacking. I plan to get a one month pre paid plan for each carrier and test them out.
Question is if anyone has a third tier (or lower) carrier like USCellular that they use nationwide as they fly...any interruptions in service or data usage? |
Dig the screen name.

I have tracphone and get service everywhere. My house had no service other than at&t and it was spotty at best. Tracphone works with no problems. My oldest son has Cricket and has been happy with it as well.

Pretty sure they all lease towers from the (now) big three so probably depends on whose towers they use in your area

Xfinity mobile uses Verizon network and is way cheaper..

I don't personally use it but have friends who do. It's called mint sim. It's like $20 a month. Uses the T-Mobile network and has no brick and mortar stores. Huge savings and TMobile works pretty much h everywhere now.

Beware that pre-paid plans typically do not have the same roaming access as post-paid, so your study of different carriers’ roaming abilities will not be accurate. You could also just put another carrier’s sim card in your phone...you won’t be able to make any calls, but you can see signal strength and whether you are “on” network or roaming.

Depending on how much data you use, GOOGLE-FI can be a great option.
They combine T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular domesticly They make one network with dynamic switching between the 3...net results is very good coverage similar to Verizon/AT&T, but lower cost, and great customer service. $20 a month, unlimited talk and text, then $10 a gig for the first 6 gigs if data, free after that... International data is the same price, and coverage is very good. |
Thanks all for input. Good points about the roaming. Our family uses pretty little amount of data in my opinion but hoping Verizon works in our remote location since they are reliable across the country.
