Traveling to Hawaii ?

Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice traveling to Hawaii. Specifically to Waikiki.
Good places to stay and best airfares.(Business or First Class).
ORD to HNL and back. Non stop both ways.

Has any one stayed at the Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel ?

Looks nice ??? Wifes 40th B-day so I want to treat her right!

She want's Beach front property, and she is totally worth it.

Thanx,

Jetsnake:D

Take her to the Hana Hana Room untop of the Sheraton Wikiki. Dinner, wine, dessert, etc. will set you back about $250, but she will never forget it. Best service and food around, every table has a great view of the beach and ocean, and they have a great dinner band and singer. We used to live in HNL and my wife still still talks about us going there for our anniversary.

I just heard from a buddy of mine that fly's for JALways out of HNL. He said the same thing. Thanks again. I truely appreciate your advice. Any other advice would be appreciated very much.

She really wants to go to one of those traditional "HOLU" dances. Which one is the best ? She would like to inter-act. She can shake her booty like you can't imagine (No Comments from the Forum). Any true advice would be appreciated. And if it is worthy.
You might be invited to a Holu dance.

I live in Hawaii. Since you're a military guy, you can try to get a room at the Hale Koa. It's the military hotel in Waikiki and it's right on the beach. You can expect to pay about 110 versus a normal room that's 200+ at other hotels.

Either the Sheraton Moana or the Sheraton Waikiki. The Moana is my personal favorite. It is more expensive than the Sheraton Waikiki.\

Duke's has good dinner right on the beach.
As for the flight, either American on the 767 or United on the 777. I think both airlines have the domestic first class offered, not the international first class seats.

Try Germaines Luau. It's was really a good time, the beach is beautiful and it's away from downtown. If you don't have a rental car, there are buses that are provided from Wikiki.

Also, on the North Shore Wiamea Beach is a must see, but also a walk to Wiamea Falls is a great way to spend the afternoon. On the way back to Wikiki, stop in Haleiwa, grab a shave ice and let your wife do a little shopping. Great place to pick up a surf t-shirt from one of the local surf shops.

One of the best beaches on the island is on the western shore. Mostly locals. Drive thru Makaha all the way to the end of the road. You have to drive thru a couple of seedy areas, but it's well worth it. You're in locals territory... so just a bit of advice, the locals are generaly very cool, but it's all about respect..... Just like surfing on someone else'e break, don't cut them out and it's all good. I lived on the island for two years and never had any problems.

I'm headed back out in May for the Honolulu Triathlon. Looking forward to being back. I need to heed my own advice and make reservations at the Hana Hana Room.

I flew out on UPS (highly recommended) and flew back on UA 777. Terrible service for a 7.5 hour flight. I was offered a small container of cheese for dinner and breakfast for 5 bucks. YGBSM!!! No fancy first class if that is what you are looking for.

Waikiki

You might want to check out the Paradise Cove Luau as well. Great show and discounts if you ask. For an alternative to Duke's check out the Beackwalk and the new shops on Lewers street. Also, the Shore Bird and Hau Tree Lanai are good places for a cocktail on by the sand...

Look for the Oceanarium restaurant in the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki. One wall is a three story tall aquarium. Beautiful restaurant, good food, VERY good mai-tais!

Oh, and be sure to go to Haleiwa on the North Shore to Matsumoto's General Store and get the ORIGINAL Hawaiian shaved ice!

I second Paradise Cove for the Luau. (paradisecove.com). Had the family in HNL in March.
