The #1 pilot at DAL was listed as captain in the Miami phone book. (In the way back when there were phone books.)

That’s because Miami was very casual. In ATL, he was listed as “His Airworthiness, Conqueror of the Skies, Idol of Flight Attendants and Scourge of Groundlings, the Right Honorable and Most Esteemed Captain Badflaps”.

I thought they hadn’t yet crossed the land bridge from Siberia. The culprits were probably brontosauri or some creatures of that ilk.

And in the airplane, he was called by his nickname, “Sir”. F/Os to him were “bubba” and F/Es were “boy”. “Hey, Bubba we’re fixing to fly to New York, get us a clearance. Boy, how about that coffee?” “Yes, Sir”
