SWA June Interview Dates
Got an e-mail from SWA today saying they'd "Luv" to schedule me for an interview and they basically offered up any weekday in June. For those in the know - is it true they only have one "decision board" each month? If so, it would seem there would be no advantage to asking for an early interview date in the month. In fact, interviewing early would make the painful waiting to find out whether or not you made the cut period longer. Any thoughts?
Thanks |
oh it's painful!!!!!!!!

My interview class and I were told by SWA HRO that our date in the pool was the day we interviewed IF we had the type. If you have your type, it certainly is a benefit for you the earlier you interview. It does mean you have to wait longer to hear if you were selected and like thestableone said.....it is a long, long, painful wait. ;) The interview experience was absolutely wonderful though. Best of luck to you.
Can you elaborate on how SWA runs its pool? Is it like some other pools where you wait for an indefinite time or more like: get the type, get out of the pool and start working? |

Your pool date is used to determine when you get a class date. The earlier your pool date, the higher your priority to get to class. They go strictly by pool date and availability date and have not historically maintained a big pool.
If you already have a type rating, your pool date is your interview date. If you don't have a type, your pool date is the day you finish your type rating. Example: I interviewed and got hired without a type. A friend of mine who had his type interviewed after my DB but before I finished my type rating and was hired. His class date was assigned more than a month before mine, even though he interviewed two months after me. |
Streamjet, Congrats on the interview! I'm curious to know how long it ahs been between submitting your resume and getting the invite. Do you have the type already?

One DB a month is the norm.
I would echo the general consensus...If you have the type already, earlier interview date is better. If you don't have a type and want to wait until you hear from the DB, then it is not as big an issue. The earlier you get your type rating the better, so it's your call if you want to schedule that before you get "the call." Be careful w/ delaying your interview date too far. I don't know the specific reasons, but a small number of candidates who interview in one month, have been pushed back to the following decision board, through no fault of their one. It seems that the People Dept isn't always able to finish up with all the interviewee packages, so they get pushed back to the next month. I got called for an interview back in Feb, and chose a 6 Mar interview date. Had 41 days between my interview date and "the call. " I really don't know if interview dates had much to do with the delays, but if I were interviewing now, I would still lean toward an earlier date and gut out the extra couple of weeks wait. It's not that bad the first couple of weeks, since you know the DB is a ways off. Last week is the hardest--no matter how long you wait. |
Same thing happened to me. My interview and decision board were over a month apart.

Me too!
I just got the email for the interview also. I will be there the end of June. The LOI review in the april thread was really informative.
Good luck to everyone! |

I first submitted my resume a year ago. I don't have the type rating now and I don't plan on getting one until/unless I get hired - while I'm sure it might help, I know it's not going to get me the job. A couple of my buds found that out the hard way. |
Right on Steamjet,
A type will get you an interview, but it won't get you a job. Once you get an interview--type rating or not--it's up to you to show SWA what type of person you are, not how good a pilot you are. Everyone who shows up for the interview is exactly even...until the questions or LOI begin. Satch, nice avatar...good to see the ol' star lizard again. |
Two things of note... As far as I know, the interviewers don't know if you have the type or not - other than looking at your resume. But it's not like they're comparing the typed vs. the non-typed. But it does help you get the interview.
The other thing is the rumor/speculation that the May DB is the 14th. So if you interview in early June, you have a good chance of being on the June DB, whereas if you delay it until later in June, you may get put in the July DB. Just a thought. |
Just a FYI,
The first person I interviewed with had my online application sitting on the table in front of me. There is a question on it that asks if you have the type or not on that application. I assume they read it and saw I had the type. We were interviewed the first week in April. I was thinking we would make the April DB but they briefed us that we all would be in front of the May DB instead. They told us why, but I honestly don't remember. If you interview in early June, you will most likely be put in the July DB. I think that is how it has been running. Best of luck to everyone. |
