Airbus Headset?
Hi all- new guy to the forum just hired onto the A320- been looking through the threads to find headset recommendations and haven't been able to draw a strong conclusion. What do y'all use?
Looking at either the Telex 850's or just grabbing a used 750 off ebay and replacing the ear and mic covers... any other ideas? Got scared off of using the ship sets from some buddies, and also told the Bose A20s I have are way overkill. Didn't want to drop 500$ on a brand new pair of ANR phones either. (I'm cheap like that) Thanks in advance! |
I'm just curious what turned you off about using the ship set? I fly with maybe 1 out of 20 people who bring their own headset.
|
Ah really? Just heard guys say they preferred to bring their own because of germs on the ship ones. Maybe my friends are just germaphobes

Bring your own mic cover and wipe the headset off with a disinfectant wipe. You’ll only use it under 18.

We have 750s on the plane, got a pair of 850s from ebay for $200. Totally worth it to me, have been looking at the DC pro X for the Bluetooth, but can't really justify the extra $300 used.
Thank you. |

Save your hearing. Wear an 850 ANR throughout the flight and you can still hear the guy when he takes his headset off.

Awesome, thanks for the replies everyone

Honestly I use my A20s in the Bus. I like em.
|
I got a pair of telex 850’s for cheap on eBay then bought the UFQ airbus adapter on amazon for $30. Works great!

I use my A20s on the bus. I can’t make out the speaker very well with them off. Not all busses are created equal, some can be quite loud.

In cruise, yes. When you’re with a knuckle head who likes to climb out at CI99 and 330kts and the plane sounds like it coming to come apart, the ANR headset is great

The bus isn’t a loud airplane, but the air vents are plenty loud and the speakers are garbage. I like wearing a headset, but am forced to leave one ear open......for now.

When you’re done plug in the 750s back.
Thank you. Not saying I've never forgotten, but I have walked back from the gate to check if I wasn't sure. |
Yup. And put the seat back to my settings while you are at it. :)

Jeez, any other pet peeves on the Airbus I should know about??
|
Yes. Move the seat forward when you leave. Don't cross the seatbelt.

And most importantly.... Touch the screens. If you touch them enough, they become touch screen activated. |

Make sure when you dim the screens you dim the radar too, very important...

The bus is loud below FL320. Anyone who says otherwise is already suffering hearing damage. The 'topless' crowd at NK proceed to turn the speaker 75% of the way up and still miss a significant amount of calls. This procedure is ridiculous and should be delayed to at least 300.
Anyone wearing ship headsets is also suspect in my mind as I'm not sharing anything that goes on my head with you dirty SOB's. UFlyMike, Avee, DC Pro X, etc are very common in this airplane and well worth the cost of preventing, or from further worsening, tinnitus. But, if you do decided to go 'topless' at 180 don't expect me to do so as well. I can hear your callouts but don't expect me to engage in chit chat over the noise of the cockpit and my noise attenuation. Do your retirement years and ears a favor and invest in a quality headset. |
Another vote for the DC Pro X. You can get them with the XLR plug. I love mine.

We don't carry big leather flight cases around that need to be slid in from behind anymore. Roller-bag seatbelts to the center jumpseat just fine with the FO seat in any position. |

Nobody cares! I would be happy if the previous guy didn’t have crumbs all over the seat; what position it is in is just bonus points if he correctly guessed my specific liking for the seat position when leaving. |

That. I fly the 330 but commute on the NEO. The 330 is whisper guilt most of the time. Some of the NEOs are louder than the RJ that I used to fly at my former airline. If I ever go to the 321 I’ll be buying an ANR set. IMHO, it’s a must on that plane. They seem to get pretty quiet cruise. On the ground, climb and descent they’re very noisy in my opinion. I’ve heard good things about DCs new ANR offering and one can never go wrong with the A20s from Bose. Da ‘Bus has an intercom that you can use when it’s noisy. |
Just bought the Telex Airman 8’s. Upgraded version of the 850. I used to have the Bose X and Light Speed at my regional days I’ve been using the ship sets (Telex 750 ) for the last 7 years. I’ll post a review when I get them and use them. Lotta info out there. With shipping $415. I’d say anyone seriously considering the 850 just go with the updated airman 8.
