There was another 23yo in the class before mine earlier in the year. Handful of people in that age range from the ATCA instructor program and/or former interns have been in UA NH classes this year it seems.

I knew some too (15 years ago). Almost all of them skipped college and went into a flight academy right out of high school. One of them works at Southwest. One did an online degree while working at the regionals and works at United now. The rest work at Jetblue and Spirit.

Let's say you come from a supportive aviation family and your dad is a CFI. you have 500 hours when you take your private/instrument/multi on your 17th birthday. You bust hump for the next year and have 750 when you get your comm/cfi on your 18th birthday, and then start flying a King Air for a year and then you go to a regional at 19 with 1000 hours, 250 Turbine PIC. You get 3000 hours the next 4 years, upgrade on your 23rd birthday and have 4500TT, 750 TPIC, 500 121 PIC.

Rare combination of drive and resources for sure, but doable.

cannot get a restricted ATP until your 21st birthday. but other than that it seems theoretically possible to work for a pt. 135 gig and get 2500tt and maybe 1000 TPIC then jump to a regional a month before you turn 21

All going to change in January when the age is raised to 70 if one can hold special medical.

LOL flight experience to get on with a major? That generally means very little to them judging by the countless amount of experienced clean non-minority applicants out there with stacked logbooks that aren’t getting calls. That young Delta guy is a minority with little to no airline experience, you can actually google him. Makes ya wonder what these company’s really want.

Flew with a guy who ended up getting hired at AA just before his 25th bday. 4yr degree, 6K TT, 5k turbine, 2k TPIC if I remember correctly (2 decades ago). Also, few months ago, flew with a (white, in case anyone asks) guy who got hired by DL before his 25th, 1 year regional, 1 year NK, 0 TPIC.......

Flight experience? C'mon, this is major airline hiring. He probably had a nice long list of volunteer experience down at his local dog shelter which 'rounds out his character' and makes him a great hire!

We can't pick on him too much though, I'm sure he's had a hell of a time in his career getting to that major airline job.

I know of another white guy with similar credentials that got hired at DL at 24. No time at an LCC, though. All regional.
