Actually, I probably need to rethink what they may be asking me. Lately I've noticed via lines of questions and even some news articles that I don't think the general public views First Officers as pilots.

I get that a lot.

I also get thanked a lot for the flight, as though I worked it, when riding in the back a lot.

Not really a joke. I've witnessed several situations where pax made comments like that, sometimes trying to be "funny" others not so funny. All resulted in a 1-3 hour delay as the crew member in question initiated a defensive drug/alcohol test. Takes longer at an outstation.

One of the guys had a slight speech impediment, the FO said this happens to him occasionally.
