One thing I've slowly realized in the 5+ years I've flown the Airbus is it's not actually THAT quite until you get to a high cruise altitude. And I mean 360 and above. The wind noise gets annoying below that.
I use my Telex 850 until the other guys suggests speakers on through anywhere from 180 to about TOC. I'll take it off, then usually put on my BOSE QC35 and keep it on throughout the flight, until it's time to get busy and the 850 comes back on.
I can actually hear the speaker BETTER with the QC35 on than without, due to the wind noise being nearly eliminated. Conversation is pretty easy too.

But im seeing more and more clarity alofts and bose's. Most folks who bring their own keep it on.
Maybe one day Ill get that bose pro flight V2. Just cant justify the thousand dollars for it when my Ufly still works fine. The ANC from the qc15/25/35's are quite good, and can be overkill for the airbus. Changing levels of ANC would be nice. Plus if that tap through feature works correctly with V2, would be useful on the bus! My only gripe about any own headset is it robs you of space in your bag. The ufly mike combo at least works at the hotel as well for netflix etc. I bought a 14$ case on amazon thats crush resistant and holds the qc15, plus the ufly mic. Its just about a half inck thicker with an inner pocket for whatever you want to put in it (ufly, batteries, etc). The case the qc comes with is just big enough to hold the headset. You really gotta cram the uflymic into it if you want to make it fit. (Im using the older version of Ufly they stopped making a year or two ago, not the harmony)

Also, the aural alerts are way too loud for me. Having a ANR headset on makes it much better. Any automated aircraft callout with the standard telex 750's on, and it blows my ears out. I cant hear anything else (comms or other pilot) while that aural alert is going. For example, missed an ATC call on final, because the "One Thousand" call basically blocked it. Its really annoying IMO.
