Jumpseater Bag Fees on Spirit & Frontier???
#12
Out of 10 times I’ll jump seat on a legacy carrier and offered something that is for purchase; 5/10 is a waive off of the credit card asI hand it over, 4/10 is a fake credit card scan, and 1/10 is a real scan of the credit card.
I think you got the 1/10 flight attendant.

We’ve (F9) had recent memos state that non revs and OAL jumpseaters are supposed to be charged. In fact, even when we’re working the FA’s are supposed to charge us for snacks.
Yet another Poke the Bear example of what management thinks of us.
It’s embarrassing and a constant reminder of what a sleeze bag group of leaders we have.

Mostly true in my experience, except on AA. They will happily accommodate a jumpseater's carry-on by sending it to baggage claim, all the while making unsolicited remarks like "yeah we only gate check bags for AA employees only!"
Ok bro I wasn't asking but good to know...
I only ride on AA if it's on a paid ticket, and even then I look for any other available option. And to clarify, it is seldom the crews and almost always the gate agents.

Spirit knows what side their bread is buttered on. Treating jumpseaters with professional courtesy (and a free cup of whatever) is cheap compared to the benefit spirit pilots get jumpseating on OAs, and they know it. Spirit is very commuter friendly and it pays back hugely because everyone knows it.

It's not by accident that SWA mgt says our #1 customers are fellow SWA employees. That sentiment extends to our industry partners because we know how important it is to maintain good relationships with OAs for jumpseat and other revenue-enhancing privileges like KCM.

They charged my wife a carry on fee for a bag she was carrying. I was in uniform and JS and asked the gate agent if we could count it as one of my bags. She said no and charged her $60. In front if everybody my wife turns to me and says never work for this airline. I replied, no problem.
