Default Stupid question.

I apologize in advance for the stupid question, but would a pilot at a Major US Airline be allowed to fly contract on the side? Let’s say Part 91 on a nice corporate jet. Asking for a friend of course.

Not as common as you might think. 95% of situations won't make sense financially. Major airlines will simply pay more with greater flexibility.

The question is, why would you put your ticket on the line? Sorta the dog with the bone looking at the water reflection.

Most majors won’t allow it. Raises to many FAR 117 issues.

You would need chief pilot approval to do any flying outside of the airline that utilizes your commercial.. as in you’re getting paid to fly. As mentioned before, brings up a lot of Far117 conflicts or issues unless you’re flying a reduced schedule at your airline. Usually more work than it’s worth for everyone to keep track of your rest and rolling flight times so would probably not be approved.

Your friend should be capable of researching this subject on his/her own.
