Btw, I think staying home with your child is more important than breastfeeding. That's what I'm an advocate of!

Stay home with your newborn and breastfeed! Best for the baby.
As for breastmilk, That stuff is liquid gold.....formula is $30 a can, it’s more expensive than good beer!

Unless the mother has a perfectly healthy diet free of chemicals, alcohol, drugs AND stress, it ain't always better. I seriously think some do it out of guilt to compensate for leaving your baby for long periods of time, sometimes in the care of strangers. No thanks!

My three were formula all the way and they're healthy, smart, successful and well-adjusted.

There is nothing wrong with formula but breast milk IS better... And not if you are in perfect health. There are undeniable benefits to breastfeeding.

Really, I'm not sure what these ladies are asking for. Paid maternity leave for as long as they're breastfeeding? Allowed to fly until they go into labor (yikes).Not sure what they want on the airplanes, but it would absolutely make some people uncomfortable if they were pumping in the cockpit. That gets into an issue of whose rights trump others.

There are reasonable accommodations, and then there is making a company jump through hoops and pay through the nose for breastfeeding and pregnant women.

Or just reasonable paid leave. In Europe, they get up to a year. My wife's company offers 5 months of paid leave. The transportation industry is, in general, pretty pathetic.

National paid family leave like the rest of the civilized world would be a start.

The trend now is breast milk for a year (there is science to back that up).

So full pay for a year? OK. Then what about another kid after that? And then another?

Oh yeah and what about Dad? If we're giving a paid year off I want that too. And retroactive too, since it wasn't available when we had little kids.

For how many years are employers going to have to pay new parents to sit home? While the rest of us suck it up to cover for them.

I think quality time with small kids is very important and am certainly open to long LOA's, but getting paid to do it is a bit over the top.

Maybe 100% pay for a fraction of a year or a fraction of pay for 100% of a year with options for more time off unpaid as necessary. Then reasonable accommodations after that. And yes fathers deserve paid leave too. In return we get a more civilized society with a happier and more productive workforce with better adjusted children
