All depends on the outcome of this virus. If it goes away before the summer then life will be back to normal and hiring will be robust again. If it becomes a full blown pandemic, then forget the furloughs. Airlines will start shutting down or severely downsizing. I hope its the first scenario. My airline overseas has already announced plans to stop hiring and a reduction in pilots. They will offer an unpaid COLA soon before furloughs begin.

Depends, if your company has large retirement numbers (like AA) and you have some seniority you may be ok. If you’re at a company that has small retirement numbers (like Alaska) and you are somewhat junior, I’d expect to be furloughed and hope for the best.

then someone with some authority and that can be trusted needs to get on TV and tell people to calm down when the time comes. I don’t think it’s now because the airport seems as full as ever for a late February day but in a couple weeks with spring break happening that could change.
