Well since this is in the Major section, odds are you are not new to the industry, so you should be prepared. Furloughs are no secret and I was taught, budget your life on FO pay, don't get divorced, and have a furlough fund.

I am shocked at how many spouses quit their jobs when they their husband/wife starts at a major. Personally, we planned our budget on one income source. Sure it was odd explaining to other pilots why I don't have a boat and why I still rent, but the nice thing is if I'm furloughed I won't be stressed.

Now with regards to the OP's question. I'm thinking about doing some multi-day bikepacking camping trips. Part of the furlough deal is I'm supposed to have dinner ready for my wife when she gets back from work, but I think she can fend for herself a few days a month.

Seriously man. Been watching this guy whine incessantly for years now. Glad he'll never be sitting next to me but I feel sorry for the B6 guys who have to listen to him.

Transatlantic trail on an off-road motorcycle. 90 percent off road trails across the USA. Solid YouTube videos of it

.
Been through two furloughs already, a downgrade, and on my seventh airline. I’ve only ever bought one house, the one I’ve lived in the last six years (for a whopping $250k). On wife number one. Don’t have a boat or other toys. Any that I had (fishing kayaks, road bicycle), I sold when I was last downgraded to pay the bills while I drove Lyft/Uber on all my days off. I’m currently working a part-time job four days a week while on LCR to add whatever cash I can. It’s hard to be prepared for a furlough when you’ve been completely effed by this industry so many times. Now that I am on second year pay at a major, and making the most I’ve ever made in my life, I’m finally able to claw back some lost ground.... but now looks like I’m getting furloughed. Again.

John Muir trail up in the sierras is pretty spectacular. I would recommend the part between Mt Whitney and Yosemite. Takes about a week.

Go live in somewhere cheap and gorgeous. Get a $2000/month villa with a maid, cook, gardener and butler. Learn the language

My house is under contract now so my mortgage payments will be stopping soon if we make it to the closing. I’ve been living well below my means for years now, even though I was told I’d never have to worry about a furlough because of all the retirements. 😏

No health insurance for children. Don’t have any, don’t want any. My nieces and nephews are great.

👏👏👏 we’re in the same boat !!! Cheers !!
I would drive around the country or go to live at another country !!
