90 second video from CNBC

President Trump is banning Chinese Airlines from flying to the USA effective June 16th. This will effectively end all direct flights between the US and China.

It is my understanding he did this as a result of China banning US flights first. Kind of misleading dontcha think?

The US Department of Transportation is spot on here, in my opinion. China created an arbitrary restriction backdated a couple of weeks that essentially precludes US airlines from offering any service to China, even though Chinese airlines can fly to the US.
Seems pretty cut and dried.

Eagerly awaiting when the mainstream media realizes putting everything in a political context is driving away viewers.

Explain the part that is misleading.

China banned US airlines from operating into China. Trump responded by banning Chinese airlines operating into the US.

China should not be allowed to continue operations while limiting competition through a mandatory ban. This isn’t complicated.

But when the ME3 get their government protectionism, it's bad right?

"In a March 26 decision, China’s civil aviation agency limited foreign airlines to one weekly flight into China, aiming to curb the spread of the coronavirus."

So United, Delta, and AA can fly to China but only do it once/week.

The Chinese 4 that are flying to the US, are also 1/week.

So what's the problem?

“We will allow Chinese carriers to operate the same number of scheduled passenger flights as the Chinese government allows ours,” the department said in a separate statement."

To further quote the article you linked:"...and that carriers could fly no more than the number of flights they were flying on March 12, according to the U.S. order.

But because U.S. passenger airlines had stopped all flights by March 12, China “effectively precludes U.S. carriers from reinstating scheduled passenger flights to China,” the Transportation Department said."

With that said, it looks like The Chinese have had a change of heart.

I think the round(s) of bailouts that every airline has received killed that talking point.
