Nope, it didn't. Most people think that way, but the Russians last century realized that petroleum is a natural process and is abiogenic.

That's not absolutely impossible, although most experts don't think it's a thing. But it doesn't matter either way.

1. If it's a thing, it probably takes longer than practical human timeframes to replenish.
2. We're probably going to use a lot less of it over time going forward anyway.
3. We can make our own using abiogenic industrial processes. Or biogenic processes. SAF and the like can be and is produced either way. Just chemistry.

Too much speculation in those two statements to base policy on.

Yes, exactly.

Have you ever read this article?

Lot's of different ways to make liquid fuel, from biomass like in the article, but you can also pull carbon right out of the air (and hydrogen from water). It's all good for climate compliance as long as the carbon comes from the air and not ancient underground biomass. Animal biomass counts, because ultimately plants are at the bottom of the food chain and they get their carbon from the air.

LOL not sure who started the rumor that carbon is bad, but they are one hell of a used car sales man!

The rumor stuck, and we're stuck with it.

Not directly related to aviation, but this looks like a bellweather: the Gulf Coast petro industry heavy state of Louisiana wants to go carbon-neutral....

good to see Airbus finally catching up.

https://investors.boeing.com/investo...y/default.aspx

The partnership builds on Boeing's long-term industry leadership and investment in SAF. The company began SAF test flights in 2008 and helped gain approval for commercial use in 2011. The Boeing ecoDemonstratoruses SAF for all flight test programs and completed the world's first commercial airplane flight using 100% SAF in 2018. Earlier this year, Boeing committed that its commercial airplanes will be capable and certified to fly on 100% SAF by 2030.

can’t be worse than wearing a mask. Lol

if I were king and trying to reduce carbon. I’d be investing in #1 nuclear power and technology and #2 encouraging and incentivizing regenerative agriculture.

Next, I would incentivize people to get off the grid or at least reduce reliance on the grid. Most power production would be ultra local and decentralized. Wind generators and solar. Right now in PHX, half the valley (one of two power companies) is disincentivizing solar by making it not make economic sense to go solar.

Since, the oceans are the lungs of the planet, better make sure those are healthy.

if I were an airline trying to cut down carbon emissions I might start by making sure there were rampers to meet the plane.
