They didn’t exempt commuters from the international testing requirement. Here is an excerpt from last Thursday’s ALPA Fastread:
“As reported in last week’s FastRead, the Executive Order also requires a negative COVID test for international travelers coming into the United States from foreign departure points (not including U.S. territories) within three days of travel. According to guidance from the CDC, crewmembers on official duty assigned by the air carrier or operator that involves operation of the aircraft, or the positioning of crew not operating the aircraft (i.e., on “deadhead” status), will be exempt from the requirements of the order, provided their assignment is under an air carrier’s or operator’s occupational health and safety program. Crewmembers who are deadheading on another air carrier should coordinate with their airline regarding their crewmember’s eligibility for an exemption from testing. The airline should provide the crewmember with any required documentation in addition to the crewmember’s identification.
ALPA is still engaged in discussions with the TSA, FAA, and CDC regarding this requirement, but at this time, pilots commuting to the United States in a non-deadhead capacity to work or traveling in for airline training events from international locations (including Canada) are not exempt and are expected to show a negative COVID test result before being allowed to board the aircraft at the location of departure. If you are commuting to work from an international destination, be sure to plan your commute accordingly based on these testing requirements. You may also have to comply with CDC guidelines for self-quarantine or self-isolation until on duty. Likewise, when traveling out of the United States to an international destination, you may be subject to the COVID requirements for entry into that international destination.”

yeah for international travel but I thought we were discussing domestic. As in the states that have covid testing or quarantine requirements we are exempt. I do it every week. Just show a badge and keep walking. I imagine it would be the same if domestic testing was required.

I had quite the conversation with the underwriters about why I live in a different state than where my company is headquartered. I also get this from pax all the time, so yeah I can see that happening until the unions and airlines step in.
