It is like Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said in an obscenity case, “I know it when I see it.” It think that applies to reasonably close to two hours.

Thanks everyone. I have had some awful commuting experiences the last couple of weeks after a great run of 3 years where there weren't many issues. I did update the app and we will see. It is all a "moot" point (I would like to blame the autocorrect on my phone for that gem earlier but excuses are like..well you get the point) until I get called.

Just curious, what exactly is your commute? Do you drive 3 hours to DTW and then fly out on Delta to your base?

I’m not so sure I’d want to start over with a bit over 10 years to go, but that’s just me. Referencing DTW, one can hold NB FO there fairly quickly. I’d say less than 2 years. WB is a bit of a different story…much longer for that. We’ve hired a bunch of people since 2014, so Capt will be quite a bit longer. Many older NWA pilots are DTW based, so the retirements should impact DTW with some movement.

Nope, didn’t say I did. And my advice was about Detroit, not Delta. Was assuming the poster had a 20-30 year career horizon. The trajectory of detroit from 2020-2040 is quite relevant to someone hoping to be DTW based

So what's your thoughts about a DTW base for someone who does have 20 to 30 years left in the career?

DTW will be around for Delta for quite some time.
Sincerely,
Someone with 25-30 years left.

You’re asking a guy with zero knowledge of how DTW fits into Deltas strategy and doesn’t work at Delta about the future of DTW?

Detroit plays a huge role in our system. It’s not one of our “four corners” NYC/ATL/LAX/SEA, however DTW is a huge part of our international network which right now is struggling due to the obvious, it plays an important role for our connecting pax, and it’s an easy come/easy go airport. It’ll be around for quite some time, and despite what this zero TT guy says…. It isn’t “senior.”

r.”
fortunately, I’m not commenting on any of that.

this is a census prediction issue, not an airline behavior one. The Detroit metro area is like Cleveland and Pittsburgh and St. Louis and Cincinnati. A former industrial powerhouse that isn’t where America is growing.

Houston/Dallas/Phoenix/Atlanta…. That’s where the growth has been the last 20-30 years. That’s a risk for Detroit.

As for predicting airline business patterns a quarter century from now… well 25 years ago people argued whether USAir or TWA was better. But a city that is falling behind its competition in population and income is at risk. That’s all I’m saying.

as stated above, we use it as a connection hub. It is vital for this point. Who knows what will happen in 20 years. But near term, 10 years, DTW is extremely important for Delta’s network.
