Can’t speak to Cleveland, St Louis and Pittsburgh; but Cincinnati and Memphis are gone because of Delta’s push to Detroit and Atlanta. Detroit is also a huge international hub for us. Short to mid term there will be growth there due to space and expense at growing the other hubs. With Delta pulling back in Austin, Raleigh, Boston in the short term; it is hard to say that our Hub in Detroit is in jeopardy.

Listen, ALL airports not on the coast are soon going to be dead… once the Green New Deal goes through and we build all that high speed rail all across the country.
Quibbling over whether Detroit will fall is like dinosaurs arguing over whether that bright light is getting closer or not.
I’m using this year’s profit sharing check to sign up for train conductor courses. You’d all do the same if you were smart!
(Although taking blimp driver courses might be a good option too, for when we convert all of that international flying out of those dirty coastal airports to the more civilized blimp flying.)

Like many “actual” Dal pilots have said. Dtw is crucial in Dal’s success. It was the number 3 most profitable base in 2019 behind only Atl and Nyc. That being said the seniority loss to start over where the grass is slightly greener but still a dark brown post covid, is a hard argument. If you can get 320 or 73 in new hire your chances of moving to Dtw in your first year would almost be guaranteed as I have a friend who already got it before completing IOE. It really depends on the timing of the AEs vs when you start. Given your time left in the industry and if your optimistic, you’ll still have a choice between widebody FO and narrowbody CA when you retire.
To me, leaving AA is not a wise money decision but a decision based on commuting vs driving to work. Only you and your family can decide that.

If you’re concerned about commuting and you don’t have a whole lot of time left, I suggest FedEx. We’re hiring like crazy, retirements are accelerating, and you get a pension. Double deadheads and you get paid to commute. Indy might be a good base for you. With such a short timeframe for your career, I don’t think drones are a threat to you.

No desire to go to Fedex, the pension would be nice but I have jumpseated on Fedex and UPS before and it was brutal. I am sure it works for many, just not me.
I got a fixit email Sunday so we will see what happens.
Based on pre-COVID class drops, DTW was sometimes being given out during indoc and it appeared a lot of folks got DTW within a year. Based on my experience here at American I found this strange at first but after looking at Delta's bases they actually have some great locations to be based. SEA, SLC, ATL, MSP. I can see why a lot of pilots wouldn't move to DTW and make it their home thus making it junior. Upon further reflection, starting over won't be that bad either, within 2 years of starting at Delta I would essentially be right back at the same pay.
Thanks again for all the replies

However, you don’t have a long timeframe left. You’re considering giving up years of seniority at AA to start at the bottom. A dip in the economy, and you’re the first one furloughed. Things can change in the blink of an eye, and next time, the govt might not be so ready to hand the airlines money for people to stay home. You definitely need to consider the fact that right now, you’re likely safe from furlough, but going to another carrier, you’re losing that protection, and you don’t have many years to make it up.

I don't mind the pax, airport, or the FA's. I know some guys at Fedex fly all day trips but I always find it hard to believe. Is 50% day flying counting midnight to noon as 50% daytime? IDK. Not a dig on Fedex, the pension alone is worth millions.

If someone was seriously considering applying, but this was a concern, I’d definitely get a friend to show them bid packs. I think we have some of the best trips in the system, and some of the worst. But I don’t think I’d swap carriers with many years in, and not much time left to work.
