Leave AA for Delta? DTW future

No, flying midnight to noon is night flying, and brutal night flying at that. Day flying as designated by the contract is show time after 0530 am, too lazy to look at when it ends. We have a great deal of day flying in some aircraft because of the huge postal contract. Lose that and the flying gets a lot worse. Getting day flights doesn’t always go that senior, as often senior people put a priority on deadheads/layovers at their homes so they don’t have to commute, or long layovers.
If someone was seriously considering applying, but this was a concern, I’d definitely get a friend to show them bid packs. I think we have some of the best trips in the system, and some of the worst. But I don’t think I’d swap carriers with many years in, and not much time left to work.

No desire to go to Fedex, the pension would be nice but I have jumpseated on Fedex and UPS before and it was brutal. I am sure it works for many, just not me.
I got a fixit email Sunday so we will see what happens.
Based on pre-COVID class drops, DTW was sometimes being given out during indoc and it appeared a lot of folks got DTW within a year. Based on my experience here at American I found this strange at first but after looking at Delta's bases they actually have some great locations to be based. SEA, SLC, ATL, MSP. I can see why a lot of pilots wouldn't move to DTW and make it their home thus making it junior. Upon further reflection, starting over won't be that bad either, within 2 years of starting at Delta I would essentially be right back at the same pay.
Thanks again for all the replies

IMO family is important, having your mom closed by it’s important. You can always stop by from DTW to see and check on her.
The grass is not always greener on the other side. I can tell you, from a guy that was about to be furloughed last year, it was stressful. But…I got 330 in the last bid.
We lost 1800 guys last year that will be need to be replaced in the next couple of years + the mandatory retirements we still have.
The latest rumor I heard is the next bid will be as or bigger than the April one. They are expecting NH in the left seat of the 717, 220s and Widebody FOs. Most guys that wanted something last bid are still locked for another 1.5 yr.
I have many friends in AA, since I had flow rights, some of them are happy, others not so much.
Good luck with your decision!

At UPS I live in domicile and bid either afternoon reserve (noon-midnight) or afternoon trips (show around 1300-1800), some of which are out-and-backs which arrive back to base anywhere between 2200-0200. Some multiple-day trips consist of early morning departures and all day flying, but sleeping during the normal circadian window.

we have
S2 (vacation passes roughly equivalent to D1s)
S3 (equivalent to D2s, but only applies to delta mainline employees, no regionals)
S3A (all endeavor employees travel here and retirees get 6 of these a year)
S3B retirees travel here
all priorities within each category is determined by DOH

that’s fair and I definitely think TOC is a better tiebreaker, but I’m not sure I would say that difference amounts to “much better retirement travel benefits”

Do people actually care about nonrev benefits, especially after retirement?
Domestic nonrev (prior to COVID) was such a crap shoot that I would never rely on it for myself, much less if I were going with my family. It seems like unnecessary stress and extremely time-consuming, and I'd rather just book a ticket from whomever the cheapest option is (as I do now).
**Not in any way saying we should relinquish or reduce nonrev benefits, just that I don't see how it can be reliably executed with family...**
