To be clear in most 121 or equivalent training programs you still do training in the sim and aircraft. You go through all your sims and pass your type ride, then you go with a LCA in aircraft and complete a certain number of IOE legs and then you are cleared “signed off for line flying”. If you are flying part 91 the process is different. Being a LCA was rewarding and it kept you on your toes.

yes. Question is to what degree major airlines currently hiring at unprecedented rates CAN conduct training in an aircraft should sims be a constraint.

It would have to be approved by the local FAA official overseeing their training program. The cost would be staggering equipment and crew pay wise as paying someone to instruct in the sim vrs the aircraft. Many airlines use professional instructors and they could not instruct in the aircraft anyway.
