WSJ attacks 1500 hour rule causing pilot shor
#211
i know 3 pilots, late 50-ish, who were told to have cardio work ups by a cardiologist by the FAA—funky EKG or angina. All 3 started walking on the stress EKG treadmill, doc says you can stop now. A good friend said, “I just got started”. “Have a seat please” as the cardiologist ordered an OR for bypass surgery. One had a funky EKG, during stent surgery, they discovered an aneurysm that would killed him in minute.

The WSJ is being used....Used by who? Used by those who want cheap airfare. Ask the author of the article who called him to ask him to write his hack piece.
A4A, which is the airline lobby would love nothing more than to knock down labor and minimize labor's influence on pilot salaries. Why? Because achieving labor cost advantages increased management flexibility and allows them to juggle other costs. In many cases, management will get stock bonuses and other lucrative executive compensation if pilot salaries are lowered. Thus, the hack piece by the WSJ is simply an updated version of the Airline Deregulation Act. Remember that? It was supposed to lower the cost of air fare because of increased competition.... It's the same thing. let's trick passengers into thinking lowering the 1500 hour will somehow make it cheaper for airfare.

Put it back to 250TT and let the training departments weed them out. Contractual pay-scales are not going to go down (unless authorized by a bankruptcy judge). If anything the bonuses will go away, but those magically disappear now when it is time to collect.

There’s no reason to pull back any requirements, it has kept the industry safe.

Even the pilots that crashed causing the rule change had more than 1500. Might as well move it up to 3000 to be safe. While we’re at it, make Captain mins be 6000 to be extra extra safe.
