I think it matters a lot. If you are not a commuter any unused reserve day is not a day off but it is not a day you go in to work. If you are a commuter then you have to commute in for reserve regardless of if you are used or unused.

while I understand it’s a day off for you, for the sake of standardization of this thread and the ability to take away anything useful from it, we all need to be on the same page. I’m also in the view of if you have to answer your phone it’s not a day off.

It’s only a day off if you can go out and do something without being tethered to a location and phone for possible work that day.

Depends on the work rules. Even with a trip assigned at WN, you are required to be in place at the beginning of your RAP. We have no long call.
In place means within a 2 hour callout to the lounge, 3 hours to report. You have to commute in the AM of your reserve day to make your PM RAP that starts at 1130, even if you have a trip that doesn't start til 6 PM local. It's definitely not fatiguing.

Hello, fellow FedEx guy here. I'm trying to wrap my head around this also....I knew some of our guys were putting up big numbers, but my assumption was that they were working for it! You said you extended a lot but also averaged only 10 days or so a month? I know folks were extending frequently (especially during early COVID), but the price for that was a long blue line on the calendar.

Absolutely true but when you wake up at the crack of 10 and are on the boat drinking at noon it feels like a day off. Cruise the lake for some dinner and dusk fishing. Dock up about 11, sit by the fire pit until the log gets dim. Rinse repeat. I love summer reserve. This IS the life. Thank goodness for the hustlers.

Except when the call comes the dream ends abruptly, everyone on the boat’s plans change, and the scramble starts…unless you live airport adjacent. There’s a whole thread dedicated to the definition of off, and reserve isn’t it. Might feel like it sometimes, but feelings are a deceptive mistress.
