But who cares, really? He’s finally getting what was coming to him regardless.

Established factual, contextualized sources for the dissemination of information have seen their legitimacy eroded by actors who practice the exact opposite. Some engage in the new areas of deliberate disinformation because it is profitable. Some because it increases the power of a particular political party. Some because it weakens the foundations/institutions of a targeted country. Some are knowingly engaged in all 3 at once.
I recently watched a talk given in 2017 by Dr. Timothy Snyder at Waterloo University in Canada. It was on the holocaust and used his book 'Black Earth' as the reference point. At the conclusion of his lecture there was a question/answer exchange with the audience. One person had a question regarding the media. Snyder in his response made the assertion that any time there have been revolutionary changes in how we disseminate and absorb information (be it factual or not) there has been great upheavals both politically and societally. He specifically referenced radio during the 1930's (which Germanys Nazi Party mastered). People, Governments, ethicists, regulators et al are usually defenseless against said revolution because it IS new. Those with no ethical standards quickly overwhelm those who still have such quaint notions as honesty and such. While he didn't mention FOX news, he did cite the internet as such a change. Now, for many, nothing is true so we might as well indulge in what feels good.
I am grateful to Burke for providing some level, reasoned input to counter the ever so much fun activity of fear and outrage.

Canadian news investigative reporter covered the entire story, and it was pretty well done:
