Default Outrageous. Crew detained in DR

This is absolutely appalling. NONE of us should be flying to the Dominican Republic until this crew is sent home and the charges are dropped for good.

They find contraband in a Mx compartment, do the right thing by reporting it, and are still being detained in dangerous conditions?

Absolutely unacceptable. All of us should refuse flights there until this is resolved

Kinda makes you wonder who was responsible for placing the drugs on the aircraft. I’m guessing someone in the DR judicial system has a nice little smuggling ring going on and is ****ed that this crew is messing with their business.

the same thing happened about 10-15 years back to a US based cargo airline flying the Shorts 330 or 360 into the DR.

both pilots were jailed for a long time. The company spent a lot of money to free them. I think they even had to get Congress to help them

I was thinking along similar lines, although my guess is that the smugglers have the cops and judicial system on their payroll.

All the more reason for us to refuse any fights there until this is resolved once and for all.

Can the unions refuse service there in specific circumstances like this? I know about the RLA of course but this is a totally different situation than a job action related to contact negotiations.

What about ALPA demanding substantial compensation (several tens of thousands dollars) from the company since this all happened on company time vs on their own?

Something has to be done. I can guarantee you this WOULD stop if every 121 carrier refused to fly there.

This kind of stuff used to go on all of the time with Eastern airlines.

The lesson here is if you suspect that there's drugs on your aircraft, fly home and coordinate enroute to have customs drug dogs meet the aircraft. Pointing that kind of stuff out in a foreign country where it's the wild wild west is not the smartest move. I'm not a smart guy, but I'm always willing to learn from what happens to others.

Seems enough details available to know to call in sick if I was scheduled to fly to the DR any time soon. Ridiculous.

The Dominican Republic has a problem with doing this to Crew Members.

Yes I agree it has to stop

The article doesn't make clear where the pilots currently are?? They were released on bail but are they still in the country unable to leave?? Very scary.

One of my fears has always been to find myself in a foreign jail. F~ck....
