Pilots make bad career moves all the time - applying at UAL would certainly be one!

Study the way UAL is being managed and it's clear that they don't want to run an airline. UAL is being packaged for a buyout/merger plain and simple.

With UA's performance at the bottom of the heap in virtually every area (and getting worse) I can't see any other carrier willingly wanting to merge. This would leave the hostile takeover option as they are sitting on tubs of cash. Ask the USAir pilots what a good deal that merger was, and expect worse at UA.

Until there is new management, skip applying at UA if you want a secure future or anything that resembles a career.

oh I dunno,

I agree that upper level management has "given up" trying (if they ever were trying) to run the airline as a successful enterprise; at this point, it appears that they are just trying to cash in.

As a career move, I don't see that it could be bad move to apply. If United changes course and becomes something that resembles what it once was just a few years ago, then great, the pilot has an outstanding career ahead!

If the situation at United deteriorates, then a pilot can simply use United as a stepping stone to a much better job, and by having done so, maybe have become more competitive to get that "dream job".

United ain't what it used to be, but it is still way better than a lot of other pilot jobs out there......bottom of the barrell regionals, many unsched. 135, etc.

Just my thoughts.

Unless you are in the military or are the son or daughter of a captain, don't plan of working of UAL or DAL for that matter.

What? Trust me... as long as you have recommendations from line pilots (at both) you have a good chance... big kicker is the person who is giving you the recommendation actually flew in the aircraft with you or in your formation... not worth much for character.

That will change they are going to run out of "family & Friends" its just like that initially when hiring picks up at all airlines, CAL is still very much recs only, but thats because they have been one of the few that has been hiring look at SWA they interview everybody............., not simply because someone has "walked" your stuff in, also its hard to get hiree by UNITED unless you sue them:eek:

You have to claim they didn't hire you because of discrimination:p United is known for that isnt it?
