PM flying out of PHX has many showtimes after 1PM. My last trip started at 7PM. PM reserve RAP starts at 1030.

Allegiant LAX base is a good possibilty due to the AM/PM same day-trip flying schedule. Average work about 3 days a week. AM trips starting early 6 am report getting back to LAX around 1 pm. PM trips starting after 12 noon onwards getting back to LAX after 8 pm-10:30 pm. Coming home everyday!

Reserve schedule min 10-12 days off per month. 90 minute call-out to the parking lot..but that's hardly ever an issue. Most Reserve Assignments are give with multiple hours notice or the previous day.

Don’t go to Allegiant for sleep purposes, go to a major, it will be fine, trust me.

Yes. If you're looking for LAX or nearby bases, you don't need allegiant. If you absolutely need to be home every night in Appleton, WI then maybe.

[QUOTE=jaxsurf;3438568]I think the bottom line is that if you want banker’s hours, then you should get hired by a bank.

You need to get real with yourself about what the transportation industry is and is not. Unless you can magically generate yourself years of seniority at an airline, you’re not going to get banker’s hours or day trips only (which would be incredibly stupid anyway, if you’re driving from Temecula)./QUOTE]

speaking of magically generating seniority. What about getting hired then going to a guard unit and taking as much mil leave as possible untill u are senior enough to not do redeyes?

1. Poor form.
2. Guard may or may not even allow AD retirees to serve. I think some states used to allow that.
3. Federal reserves probably won't take an AD retiree.

You won’t have a normal sleep pattern without seniority. Period. Might take six months, might take six years.
It all depends on what level of variance you’re willing to accept, and what sacrifices you’ll make to your schedule to allow for that.
I try to stay on a pretty standard sleep pattern, but I do wake up at 0300-0430 to drive to work most weeks. It can make for a tough first day, but I try to bid for an easy day one to compensate. I’m willing to not bid certain destinations and trips if the layovers are too short for me to rest, workout and eat. 12 hours is great for some people, others want 20.
West coast bases will likely have more redeyes, and you’ll have to eat at least a few as you gain seniority.
My suggestion is to try it out, you can always bail if it’s not for you and find a flying job more suited to your lifestyle.
Exactly, good luck, and I don’t care how much seniority you have, your circadian rhythm will always be screwed with, especially on the west coast. Add in delays for any reason you can imagine, I’ve had more min rest nights than I can ever remember lately. And then there’s the hotel. I don’t care if it’s a five star resort you will always be woken up by weird air conditioning sounds, other people slamming their doors or partying, and then of course when you finally do fall asleep with your do not disturb day sleeping sign on the door, the hotel staff will be knocking on your door all day long even when you day sleep. I won’t make it to 50 at this rate.

I’d say bankers hours is pretty much impossible. That being said, at SWA you can have a pretty consistent schedule where you can sleep approximately the same time every night. You’ll either be on a PM schedule or an AM schedule. Pick your poison. If you’re a night owl like me, I sleep between 2am and 10am or whenever I wake up. I can pretty much make that sleep window work for me every day of the week. If you’re an AMer, you can sleep from 8pm until 6am, but it’s be hard to keep that schedule consistent with the VERY early reports, especially if you’re flying an east coast AM. I mean some of those east coast AMs will have you waking up at 2am home base time. So if you want a consistent sleep schedule on AMs you’d probably have to sleep from 6pm-2am, and who wants to do that? That’s why I’m a PMer. I’m rarely tired, but I manage my sleep pretty carefully and prioritize it over pretty much everything else.
