But doesn’t it basically make it impossible to commute to reserve?

how would that change vs SC? As a note at DL when I commute in for a SC, I often just stay at the airport and commute home same day if I can with my SC RAP.

9 hours (well closer to 7 with our 2 hours non contactable) of SC at DL vs 4 hours of FSB at UA for me essentially being in the same place.

I would think FSB would have more of an effect on locals than commuters.

We have at most 6 SCs per month. Don’t they pretty much have unlimited conversions to FSB?

Thanks for the input. UAL is currently on the lower end of quality of rsv and this ta makes it even worse.

9 hours is closer to 5 for me as a commuter to the occasional SC: non-contactable first two hours and often can be released with 2hrs to go (assuming you can get a call through to skeds)...

Skeds is clueless lately though, earlier this month I came up from the airport gym at about 3hrs to go on SC and noticed that the flight to my commute location from 2hrs prior was still sitting at the gate. Went to talk to the agent and they said they were waiting on a reroute ER captain.... (exactly what I am) to operate to my commute city!!!!! Im thinking, why the He%^# am I even here on SC working out in the gym when I coulda been operating a flight and left on time? I was on hold for skeds when the agent said the rerouted captain had landed and was on his way. By the time skeds answered, he had arrived, and I just asked to be released two hours early and caught the now 4hr delayed flt to my commute city.

FSB doesn't have to be terrible. Turn it into a line bid rather than a reserve conversion and make it worth your while. At Hawaiian it's an 8 hour day, 5 credit hours, and you get paid minute for minute after that 8 hours if you're on a flight. It goes senior, and helps line holders maintain their scheduled lines.

That’s sounds like a decent provision. Choices are always a good thing in a contract. You might not like a provision but chances are if it’s decent someone will and now your not forcing it on pilots. Didn’t ALPA provide a side by side contract comparison with the TA?

as a commuter, i preferred field stby to short call. With FSB I could usually commute in, sit at the airport for 5 hours and commute home. With SC, was stuck hanging around the airport or hotel (at my cost) for the entire day.

1. What airline?
  • AS
2. What is your credit per day for rsv?
  • It depends: 3.9-4.4hrs/day
  • guarantee SCR: 79, LCR: 75
3. How many days of rsv per month?
  • 18/19 - 12ish duty periods off, *different than days off
4. What is the earliest you can start on day 1 of rsv.
  • 0300 is typical
5. Any other important rules we should acknowledge and build upon?
  • 14 hour RAPS starting all over the clock.
  • No Fatigue mitigation when building trips.
  • Combining Open Trips is legal and normal. A creative scheduler can imagineer one hell of a 5-day or more day trip. DH all over, and as many 10-11 hour overnights, and day to night swaps as you can tolerate.
  • No limit to trip length. 6 days of reserve, no problem 6 on the road hear ya go. My record is 7 days assigned but I’ve heard of 8 days too.
  • You get nice bullying emails from your Chief if you don’t answer your phone quick enough bc scheduling changed their mind again.
  • 30hr rest periods can moved by company whenever
  • LCR can proffer and pickup aggressively
  • SCR nah
  • Trading RSV days is only possible if the days involved are positive in your zone and for the entire day.
  • Company gets your RAP +5hrs to return you to base before extra $$
  • All night RAP’s potentially lose a day off. Example 1800-0800… + 5hrs

That’s all can remember. Thank god I hold a line now 😅
