Southwest to offer $59 DIA fares
Southwest Details Denver Plan

Southwest Airlines (LUV:NYSE) Thursday unveiled the details of its plans to fly out of Denver.
The Dallas-based low-cost airline, which last week announced it would enter the Denver market, will begin service from the Mile High City on Jan. 3, with a total of 13 daily flights to these cities: Chicago, Las Vegas and Phoenix. One-way fares will start at $59.
Southwest initially will occupy two gates in the C Concourse of the Denver airport and will have about 40 local employees.
The airline expects over time to beef up its presence in Denver, where Frontier Airlines (FRNT:Nasdaq) and UAL's (UALAQ:OTC BB) United Airlines maintain hubs.
"These destinations are just the beginning for Southwest in Denver. We look forward to growing with the demand here," said Gary Kelly, Southwest's CEO. "Denver is a market that has been a significant gap in Southwest's system for many years, and we can now connect Denver customers into our coast-to-coast operations."
Southwest shares were up a penny to $15.59.
