Default Well.

Never went to flight school. Did it the old fashioned way. And pointing fingers at people who are suggesting others go somewhere else is simply an opinion.... If you feel the need to work at a place that devalues you, your time and experience, go for it... This is not a be all, end all career. If you are happy swinging gjets gear, go for it. But some people who point out that there is another avenue to making money outside of selling yourself short at places like gjets may have a valid point. And if you are half the pilot you man up to being, why the hell would you fly your Baron through a thunder storm willingly? That reeks of dangerous irresponsibility...

Hi.

Pilotpip:
Who cares. Point is SIC time is worthless and GJ doesn't pay the bills.
In my case, SIC time, especially in a glass jet, is great.

I need about 220 civilian hours to be qualified for the Japan 767 contract jobs. So, ANY flying that gets me 250 hours is a great help. I also could use some more (500-1000) fixed-wing hours for some jobs, and 800 more to get me to 5000 TT for some other jobs, so ANY hours helps me in the above 3 categories.

I was going to apply to Etihad, but they require 1000 glass jet, and I have 0, so any glass jet hours helps a lot. I've also seen a lot of jobs that would like glass time, and I basically don't have any, so any glass time will help.

I just applied at Lynx, which pays LESS than GoJets, for FOs, and I'll take the job if I get it. It pays about the same as unemployment, but my family gets travel benefits (which is worth A LOT to me), I'll stay current, I'll get glass time, I'll build my hours, and I'll get hours in an aircraft (Q400) that is actually in demand in LOTS of places.

It sounds like now I may end up at Cape Air, which kind of doesn't make sense, since it's recip/non-glass time. BUT, I need airplane hours, of some kind or another, and the travel benefits are good. I can't afford to be picky now. One of my buddies has been laid off since July, and hasn't even gotten a single interview anywhere.

when you fly freight you don't have much of a choice.

Default Again...

And I will harken back to "What is your life, time and experience worth?" Is that flying time worth your life? Is it worth the crap treatment many endure for a career that may just dead end right there, in that Baron, the way the industry seems to be going? Is it worth becoming a statistic? For wages that you can make at any fast food restaurant, which is almost as dangerous in that your arteries will jam up like the 5 at rush hour in LA? It may be a thrill getting back on the ground, but is it still going to be thrilling when you have 2 small kids, a wife, a mortgage and a lot more things that would need your time? If blasting around in some shiny CRJ at a company that is notorious for mis-treating, scamming, abusing and generally being a dirt bag management outfit for **** poor wages, all for that brass ring that may never ever come, have fun.

People like purpleanga, laxflier, CaptainCarl and others alike need a nice, fat reality check.

This entire argument about GoJet is about as juvenile as it gets. Yes, it was a questionable outfit in 2005. No, it is not questionable any longer - a few hotheads and internet tough guys notwithstanding. The reason it was questionable was because it was considered an alter ego until the courts decided that it wasn't. ALPA has been telling furloughees to apply at GoJet since the first ALPA carrier last year went under - MINE, Aloha Airlines. ATA, Champion followed not long afterwards, and they were told the same thing - GOJET! Look at this deal with ASA now.

Simple, really.

If purpleanga, laxflier, CaptainCarl and their buddies are frowning at GoJet and would rather work at McDonald's... let them. It's their choice. Most MATURE people will see it for what it is - a job. It's a freaking job! Tens of thousands of layoffs in just about every industry get announced every day. EVERY STINKING DAY! If you manage to work in your profession, more power to you. You want to dodge the whipsaw game? Get out of the industry. Look at the whole Comair/Pinnacle/Mesaba/ASA plane shuffle... yet, it's GoJet that's bad. Like I said, early on... maybe so. Now? No different than any other... but you can't convince the juvenile delinquents to think rationally. Try arguing reason with your hormonal teenage drama queen and see how far it gets you. Same with these guys.

GoJet is extremely competitive right now because it's the only game in town. No other place is hiring. Simple, really. Apply and hope to God you get hired, and if you do... consider yourself lucky because there are dozens of other pilots competing for that same spot you just got hired into.

Best of luck to all!

Default And maybe someday you'll get your wake up call

You can continue to work for a company that treats you like crap, depressed wages and all that other stuff. Go for it, Soapbox... But maybe some people will realize that their time, effort, skills and ethics are worth more than what they offer at gjets. Best of luck to you and anyone who wants to lower their self worth by staying in this career and taking sub standard wages... Anywhere. Gjets is just a crap operation because of its history and what it did to Transstates... And I am sure a person of your unimpugnable intelligence would accept any court ruling, like the gjets one, as correct and just because a court set forth a decision. That makes you one of the sheep who are typically led to slaughter. ALPA national is a gang of *****s. Local is the only way things get done. So ALPA national can tell you anything they want. Its sheep like you who will listen. There's your reality check....

If it is so competitive then why are they still hiring low time CFI's? Probably because people that have any experience and knowledge know to stay away from them, and for good reason.

lame. every regional has low pay bad quality of life and generally things aren't comensurate with experience. As far as the tsa thing goes there are plenty of examples of this with other airlines including the one I work for. I don't see a lot of guys hating each other for that though. Must be a tsa thing. Also will everyone please stop telling people to go wait tables. Some of us actually enjoy flying and couldn't imagine doing anything else just because the pay is the same. Also waiting tables is not fun in the least. If it was all about money you'd be a moron to get into this job. theres a lot of high paying jobs out there that dont take a decade and a lot of bs to get to the money. hopefully you guys find something in your job search even if there is controversy surrounding its existince. As for the thunderstorm thing "It should be fine." -The brave men and women in Airline Dispatch.

Are they? On a mass scale? Do you have any class breakdowns to share with us?
