Delta used to play stupid games by never canceling a flight, instead just keep delaying it into a day or two in the future. Once all the pax have been rebooked, that flight just magically went away. I think the DOT called them out on their bull**** which is why you are seeing more accurate numbers from them now.

Bingo.

High-yield business travel is over, and ain't never coming back. There goes the cheap coach fares.

Fewer people can afford to travel.

Demand will permanently be lower, as only the wealthy will be able to pay even for coach.

The house of cards will soon collapse.

The "smart money" at a certain major predicted a Covid related collapse and a whittling down of their pilot force to 7000 pilots only a year or so ago.

Now they can't hire fast enough.

Nobody knows what's going to happen. Que sera sera.

Very true, but that only happened occasionally, it certainly wasn't 50 or 100 flights a day that they were 'delaying' to keep from cancelling.

The root cause, like most other world problems, is apparently Florida...

What the heck? Every airline is claiming schedule integrity. But things are going fairly smoothly. I geek like something more is at play. Closed door meetings with the DOT prompt airlines to fear delays and or meltdowns.

Demand is sky high right now, across the industry cuts have me a little puzzled

We are in a recession and the airlines are a **** show right now. Needed cuts.
