A division of the International Association of Machinists Wednesday announced that its membership had rejected a compromise and approved a strike no sooner than Sept. 29, which would allow other unions involved more time to continue negotiating. Though it’s only one organization within the broader union, the rest of the IAM is unlikely to cross picket lines — upping the pressure on the administration to solve this problem before a federally mandated cooling-off period ends at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

Where’s the part that says he’s wrong? The data shows higher Ed people are skewing more toward dems. Higher Ed could mean masters of gender studies.

Agreed, with the caveat that they may have a few days to strike before Congress actually assembles and enforces the recommendations of the PEB.
The 1992 Rail Strike only lasted 3 days before the President and Congress intervened.
Back in 1992 rail workers honored each others strikes. 1 union out of 40! Interesting.
The Congressional legislation at the time merely "banned strikes and lockouts". Wonder if they'd have the chutzpah to do that again?

Do you think the politicians want to do this? This puts them between the rock and a hard place.
If you're a Democrat politician, you would look awfully stupid having campaigned on "worker's rights and power to the unions" only to interfere and shut them down when push came to shove.
If you're a Republican, they'll want to court the unions and let the market play itself out, but at what cost?
I think this is a hot potato that no party would want to touch.

Anyone have any resource as regarding what the demands are for their new contract? I can't imagine the railways letting this happen, the costs will be astronomical unless they are hoping big daddy government steps in.

Xactly! With supply chain and inflation currently being a major issues, I could see congress imposing the PEBs recommendation.
