Leaving United for Alaska… Change my mind…
Short version… United is great. Love it. I will ALWAYS have to commute however.
At Alaska I can drive to either PDX or SEA in under 2 hours, and I ain’t ever moving from where I am. I already have the 737 type, and am only 8 months on property. Is it worth it to leave United?

I know several people considering leaving UA for Delta solely because they live in a DL base and commuting absolutely blows . People get tired of the hassle of commuting and don’t want to do it for the next 10 or 20 years .
I get it .

Agreed. Lots of great arguments for each airline if you’re moving to base or live in a multi airline base, but nothing will beat not commuting as long as you’re going to a major.
I did it for 3 months. It blows. If I ever get displaced I’m moving. Culture or equipment or contract minutia will never outweigh the years of your life evaporated by commuting over a long career.

I did the math, and I commute. But it does cost. It’s not the Uber to the hotel, or the hotel. Every time I go to work, it’s about 10 to 15 hours extra compared to living in base, so 3 hours of pay (rigs). At least 150 hours of pay per year, before you take into account premium/day trips you could do easily if you live in base. You do the math. Is it worth moving your family to make $30K more? I would rather live where I want to. But you definitely have to accept the lifestyle. And that is not for everyone.
