Yeah I said it. 🙄
So you believe your company pulling out of a major hub is the same circumstance for said commuters as your company pulling out of a small town connection airport. 🙄

They’re not replacing those routes with narrow-body aircraft. Management would be fools to replace a cash cow route for some small town RJ route that’ll barely profit anything if they’re lucky. You only have so many narrow-body’s and RJ’s. They’ll replace the 50 seaters with 76 seaters.

Then they’ll go from 3-4 76 seaters a day to 1 maybe 2, then 0, and your sorry ass will be waking up at 3:30am in morning to drive 6 hours to your company hub.

That’s what’s going to happen. It is what it is, like I said before, should have picked a better place to live or different profession.
There was a time before RJ’s when those routes were flown by mainline and the mainline was profitable. RJ’s were the CEO’s wet dream of post 9/11 world. Times have changed. They weren’t profitable in the early 2000’s they are even worse financially now. When the mainline gets enough planes and pilots in the places they want the RJ will be toast. It’s taken 20+ years but hopefully the camel will be removed from the tent.

You’re not getting it. They’re not replacing the majority of these small town RJ routes with narrow-body’s. If you’re management you have X amount of narrow-bodies and X amount of pilots and your goal is to maximize profits. What they did before 2000 is useless information. Did they have the available analytical data using artificial intelligence to see where they’re missing out on profits like they do today?

They’re not giving up those cash cow routes to go chase some small town routes they can’t operate with RJ’s because of pilot staffing.

It is what it is, this has nothing to do with “20+ years of RJ’s taking our jobs”. The RJ’s will go away WITH the small town routes. The only “wet dream” is thinking it’s going to be replaced with mainline aircraft.

Question

And then the question of whether the govt steps in and begins to force unprofitable routes, or some other similar stupid ass scheme, because the congresscritters can't stand to have their rural constituents unserved.

I’ll move to another base just like anyone with a real job that needs to relocate for work. That’s life.

Not exactly the same, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out the similarities.

It’s apples to oranges. What similarities? The part where you call both the pilots in your scenario “commuters”, because after that it’s fundamentally different.

You will be forced to move or drive. Either way you’re holding this L.

Pilots, what happens when they stop selling polos and new balance sneakers and you have nothing to wear to the hotel bar on the overnight?
