Default Reserve in NYC

How do reserve callouts work in NYC? Is it easy to make it in the 2Hrs. How far out of the city can you live and still make it in reasonably on short call? What's the best way in to JFK, train, car etc?

I'm looking at the options for bidding NYC, my brother lives in CT so I am trying to figure out if it would be feasible to use his place as a crashpad.

I fly with a lot of F/Os who live in CT. They've mentioned drive times of anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 1/2 hours, depending on time of day. I'm told that crew skeds is somewhat flexible on the 2 hour short call limit as it concerns NYC at rush hour. Short answer: yes, it's probably feasible.

Where in CT? Also, you may want to be careful pushing the limit while on probation!

He's in Danbury, which (via Google) is 68 miles/1:20min from JFK but traffic could easily add on what? another hour? And from looking at commuter train scheds I wasn't sure they would be much quicker.
