Please Donate For a Fumes Biomarker Study
Ladies & Gentlemen of APC,
My name is Ken Cooper. I’m a 14 year USMC veteran and with JetBlue since 2002. I’ve joined APC at this late date for a single reason: Raising money for a proof of harmful fumes study, specifically a TCP (tricresyl phosphate) biomarker study by Dr. Furlong at the University of Washington.
Dr. Clement Furlong, PhD, is trying to finalize a blood test that will allow pilots and flight attendants to prove exposure to the various types of triaryl phosphates that have seriously harmed, and in some cases killed, many crews in the past. He needs a remaining $75,000 of the $150,000 requested. You can see his official request for donations here: https://i.postimg.cc/VLT2qj13/3-B7-E...559-C30105.jpg
ALPA National hasn’t said no to helping but they haven’t said yes either. Feet are raw from being dragged along the floor as it were. Time is running out to complete the study before it has to be scrapped. An individual effort is required.
Please consider donating here: https://www.gcaqe.org/bloodtest
If you would like a better academic understanding of the fumes problem, please see my “Fumes Library” here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i97nyn9j09...brary.pdf?dl=0
To reiterate, this is an individual effort by individual pilots. It is not affiliated with any union, airline, or subsidiary thereof. Thank you for helping yourself and others!

Thank you very much for allowing the post. As you can see by the donation link, GCAQE is the Global Cabin Air Quality Executive since 2004. We didn’t add a separate GiveSendGo or GoFundMe crowdsource effort because of Tristan Loraine’s global leadership in addressing cabin air issues, specifically the harmful effects of pyrolyzed oil in the cabin (tricresyl phosphate) and pyrolyzed hydraulic fluid (tributyl phosphate). He is directly funding Dr. Furlong’s study through his website.
At least Spirit and AMR have seen pilots lose their lives to fumes. I started getting involved due to my participation in the Blue Pilot Fund, JetBlue’s pilot mutual aid program, and hearing about all of the sudden problems from “dirty sock smell” which was anything but. By following the leadership of Spirit’s Eric Tellman, our industry’s Erin Brockovich on the matter, I created the Fumes Library viewable by the link in my OP.
This test, which will not require a baseline test (prior to any fumes event) like the red blood cell cholinesterase test, will be a huge help to anyone seeking proof when disputed by their unknowing insurance company. I have personally talked to several pilots permanently disabled from a fumes event who have gone painstaking legal proceedings. Having this test available would’ve likely shortened those legal matters by literally years. Thanks again for allowing the solicitation. - Ken C.

This is legit. Though I don’t post a ton here, I vouch for Ken’s efforts.
I am promoting this on another internal jetblue site I have mentioned here before www.Jblupilots.com.
It is also on potato farm.
I have zero financial interest in this project. I have had a fume event that resulted in outpatient hospitalization so yea, I’m concerned.

I immediately opened my window, shut off all packs. I smelled it for a solid 20-25 seconds total and I was getting seriously light headed and feeling F’d up. Thank god I knew what this was and that it happened on the ground taxing out vs air. The CA next to me had zero clue (other than knowing it wasn’t a normal smell).
