UAL Hiring Mins
This is official. Now the question is will anyone be interested?
To be considered for the pilot position at United Airlines, you must possess the following minimum qualifications at the time of application. Those who do not meet the minimum qualifications will not be considered as applicants by United Airlines: 1500 hours Total Time - Fixed Wing. 1000 hours Multi-engine time (PIC) or Military fighter/trainer (PIC). 500 hours Turbine Time. 100 hours flown in the past year (Recency of experience). Current FCC license. Current valid passport. Current First Class Medical. Current ATP Certificate with Multi-engine land rating (AMEL). High school diploma or GED equivalent. Legal right to work in the United States. A college degree from an accredited school is preferred. Please note that PIC is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls. United only considers pilot time in fixed wing aircraft toward minimum qualifications. United is preparing to commence pilot hiring later this year. If you are interested in becoming a United pilot, please continue to check this page for more information. Now accepting pilot applications |
I did the application...don't meet the multi PIC requirement, but nothing risked, nothing gained.

Example, I used to fly a private aircraft that required two pilots, I was SIC and they let me fly PIC on the empty flights and counted it as training. |

I was just wondering if someone could clarify what this means. Does this mean some of the PIC time you receive in training doesn't count to them?

In your case, as long as you were PIC typed, logged PIC, and the other pilot logged SIC, it should be good. If you logged dual recieved, it probably does not count. 91 rules are pretty cut and dry here...if you logged it, it's all you. Just be sure that your previous employer will back up your story on this. |
Should I apply so I can laugh when they call?

I would suspect that training where you were rated in the aircraft, logged PIC, but recieved dual instruction (working on your MEI for example) would not meet this requirement.

Thanks, unfortunately the company is long gone, but I am still in contact with the pilots so they can.
If they plane would have been in an accident would you have been the one Ultimately accountable? If someone let you fly that doesn't really mean you were the PIC. Just my couple pennies. |

I heard a couple of new rumors the other day.
* UAL thinking about dropping the PIC requirement down to 500 hours. * My wife ( a DEN CSR) had a captain tell her that UAL was putting a hold on the March and April classes. Anybody know if these are true or not? |

The 500 PIC is official now
|
Anyone in the March 17 class to confirm?
|
anyone know what the junior base is for UAL? Probably IAD if I had to guess. How senior is DEN?
|
Probably LAX or SFO
|
500 PIC. I can't get a call with 7500TT, 3500PIC JET and so on. I'm just waiting for someone to call.
|
I havent done the application yet but does anyone know if there is a portion of the application to put down an internal united reference? It so, does this give you much of an advantage?
|
It's another box checked, but doesn't make a huge difference. Many people have gotten the interview with no internal recs.
This subject was covered a little bit on a thread titled How long after UAL, or United interview... something to that effect, run a search. |
The mins says college degree preffered. I have a 2yr aviation degree. Is this a deal breaker for them.
|
No, I know someone personally who doesn't have a degree and was hired recently. At least you have a 2yr.

UAL Mins and Hiring Expectations
About a week ago, United lowered their 1000 Multi/1000 PIC Single-Engine fighter mins to 500 for fighters.
As of late Feb, 41 new-hires had completed or were in training. 68 more had accepted training but not started. 100 more are anticipated by year's-end. All official channels say they are hiring a total of 200 this year. |
In general, ORD and SFO are the most junior. ORD is too cold, and SFO is too expensive. I believe 60-65% of all SFO pilots commute.
DEN is very senior. SEA is the most senior. IAD varies between fleets. |
ORD went most senior in our class followed by a SFO bid then a couple of DEN before ending with LAX and SFO as most junior. DEN has been very senior but there seems to be a bit of movement so new hires are able to bid DEN in some of the new hire classes.

Very true jetflyerger.

UAL Domicile Seniority
Just looked up the unimatic page for junior-man in each seat. Here they are, by equipment and seat, the # 1 and 2 most junior seats:
747-400 Capt: DCA, SFO F/O: SFO, LAX 777 Capt: DCA, SFO F/O: SFO, DCA 767 Capt: LAX, SFO F/O: SFO, DCA 320 Capt: SFO, LAX F/O: LAX, SFO 737 Capt: DCA, ORD F/O: DCA, ORD Note: this only tells PART of the story. The junior-man page just tells who is on the bottom rung of the ladder. It does NOT tell you the distribution of guys above that rung. For that, you need to see the Domicile Roster list. If you have Skynet access, look under Domicles. From the above, a common theme of SFO, DCA, and LAX emerges for that bottom-guy. They tend to have a linear distribution of seniority in those domicles, with no bottlenecks or "bulges." ORD doesn't make the top-two for "juniority," but it does have a lot of junior guys. It is the opposite of a bulge--dare I call it a trough? Because it has a lot of pilots, there tends to be more relative-seniority movement there. SEA, on the other hand: the junior 737 F/O has the seniority to be a 767 CAPT in 4, yes FOUR domiciles. SEA is a domicile where everybody is senior. Big-bulge; no movement. This is meant as a guide for new-hires who will discover, after their initial honeymoon-enthusiasm wanes, that they are the catfish (ie, bottom-feeder) in a pool of very senior barracudas. Pcik your domicile carefully if you want to become a line-holder or have bigger equipment-bid opportunities. |
ORD & DCA are good domiciles at UAL to move up quickly on the 320 or 737... I would not recommend going west or DEN
|
In response to the question about internal recs, complete your online application. Then contact whomever you know internally and ask them to fill out the online recommendation on SkyNet. They will need your name and the e-mail address you used to apply to UAL. The rec gets submitted after you reply.
Applied myself, with an internal, about a month ago, and am still waiting to hear ... |

If you or anyone else desires to start a new thread on this topic, that's fine. The same goes for the other thread you bumped. |
